So one day an Ordo Xenos Inquisitor tells these highlander Marines something and then they classify their history, quarantine their homeworld and put their first company in cryostasis.

It's quite simple, you see [ THE POSTED DATA HAS BEEN DELETED BY ORDER OF ORDO XENOS. THE EMPEROR PROTECTS!!! ]

Hey you can't delete....[ THE SUBJECT BROTHER COA HAS BEEN TAKEN TO INQUISITORIAL FACILITIES FOR INTERROGATION. THE EMPEROR PROTECTS!!! ]

After 2 days...

Know what guys, it's probably nothing.

On a serious side. They fought Enslaver plague and that is not small thing. Maybe they are keeping them in stasis just in case if another plague happened so that they can react. Or maybe they are in some way infected by the Enslavers with unknown virus? Or maybe they found some ELdar prophecy there or some other mombo-jombo and they decided to took stasis and when the time is dire to awaken and kick butt ( something like Grey Knights, only without planet disappointing into the Warp. ).

The only thing we know is that they found something there, in those ruins and that lead to entire Space marine chapter going in to stasis and preparing for some future gak. Even I don't want to find out what they have find out ( maybe they look read the future BT and Necron codex fluff's and decide to sleep over the nerd rage ).

I have a couple of theories. Good catch, by the way, I've never seen this before.

I think that the solution lies with the Enslavers' nature. They take over psykers, who can, among other things, see the future. I think that during the Nemesis incident, while combating the Enslavers, the Inquisition and the Storm Wardens stumblede across some information about the future, revealed by one of the victims (or potential victims) of the Enslavers. The information about this future was something so terrible that the Inquisition wanted to tuck away a weapon to fight it. Since the Storm Wardens had first hand knowledge of this future, they were the best suited to the task. Hence, they were hidden away in preparation for the day when they would be needed.

It is likely that the threat will compromise the Imperium itself, I think, which is why so many steps were taken to ensure the secrecy of the Storm Wardens. Whenever this threat emerges, even if it does find out that the Inquisition knew it was coming, it won't be able to find out what the Imperium had planned for it. The stasis indicates, to me, that the threat is a long way in the future.

They're a chapter from Deathwatch, inspired by Highlanders or perhaps just the Highlander movies. The Storm part might be a coy reference to "the quickening" that happens in those movies.

They hint that the chapter was formed around the time of The Age of Apostasy and that that may have been the reason for their creation but don't elaborate any further on it.
Hopefully, it's nothing too nefarious about them because they're a pretty cool chapter. However, the fact an Inquisitor wiped their history and quarantined their homeworld is not a good sign. They're almost Blood Raven like in that regard.

FFG put up a PDF with more information on their website. It's titled The Nemesis Incident. According to the document, one of the members of the Chapter who was alive at the time dictated the details of the incident to a number of marines. Yet despite the fact that all of the marines were present at the same time, each marine recorded different details - sometimes wildly conflicting ones. The document provides information on the most common details of the incident.

Or in other words, GMs are free to ignore FFG's history and do whatever they want.

Having said that...

When the Storm Lords returned from a campaign against an Enslaver infestation, the post-battle rituals detected previously unnoticed psychic taint among many of the marines who had fought in the campaign. Unfortunately, the chapter was unable to remove the taint from those who were infected. Initially, the Inquisition wanted to purge all of the marines who had been tainted. But because most of those infected were some of the greatest still-living heroes of the chapter, the chapter leadership strongly objected. As a compromise, a decision was made to place all of those who were tainted in stasis until such a time as a cure could be found for their condition.

Makes sense. Some sort of latent body-snatcher scenario that according to Inquistion SoPs would require a total purge of the chapter. The Inquisitor didn't have the heart for that and put the infected in cryo until a cure is found as an alternative.

Not the entire chapter - "merely" those who eventually ended up in cryo instead. Though that still would have been a pretty good-sized chunk of the chapter.

I think it would have less to do with having the heart to do it and more of finding a way to better combat a dangerous enemy.

There's a chance for a rogue chapter here. Text book says to cleanse first then find a way to prevent a future occurance. Inquisitor was probably Scottish and couldn't bring himself to do it.

@Eumerin. Any word on whether these were actually Enslavers? Or some other unidentified alien?

I'm not all that familiar with Fantasy Flight Games...but this seems to be a pretty lame explanation. As Kam mentioned earlier, very Blood Ravens-ey. I'm so disappointed.

KamikazeCanuck - Yeah, it was Enslavers. The PDF is available for download from their website. I suggest grabbing it if you're interested in the chapter's background.

Jimsolo - Not really. The Blood Ravens appear to have some sort of Deep Dark Secret(tm) that threatens their chapter if discovered. And it might have something to do with their primarch. The Storm Lords, on the other hand, just have a rather odd event in their past. The results of that event are fully understood (most of the chapter's oldest vets being placed into stasis) even if the specific cause is unknown to most of the members of the chapter. The ignorance regarding the event is due to the conflicting stories (which is basically FFG's way of saying, "Do what you want, GMs.") and probably a sense of shame on the part of the chapter's leadership that so many of their best could become tainted. But it's not a sword hanging over their heads, unlike the Blood Ravens' mysterious past.

Most chapters have something that the chapter members don't particularly like to discuss with outsiders. This is merely that something for the Storm Lords.

It's not as dark a secret as the Blood Ravens but at least it's more interesting than the Dark Angels.

The bad thing about it just being solved so completely is it's just done now. The chase is better than the catch I guess.

On the whole highlander thing, they've also taken a bit from welsh celts too. The chapter master in stasis is "Owin Glindwyr"... The most famous welsh king of celts (fighting off an English invasion) was "Owain Glyndwr". Suffice to say - I think the idea is that they're generic British Celts as opposed to just highlanders.

Also, from what I gather, it was the entire 1st company that was put into stasis?

P.S. - sorry to resurrect an old thread, but i'm just getting into the idea of starting a Storm Wardens army.
