Subject: Chaos Space Marines, Black Legion 1000p. First list ever.

Hello everyone! I'm new to Warhammer 40k and I've decided to play with
Chaos Space Marines in the colors of the Black Legion.
From what i have learned in the codex i have put together an preliminary army list at a 1000 points.
HQ
Daemon Prince (205p) (Close combat monster)
Mark of Tzeentch
Wings
Warptime
Winds of Chaos
Troops
10 Khorne Berzerkers (300p) (Charge in with Rhino, kill everything)
Skull Champion with Power Fist
Dedicated Rhino with Extra Armour
8 Chaos Space Marines (155P)
Aspiring Champion
1 Meltagun
Icon of Chaos Glory
8 Chaos Space Marines (155p)
Aspiring Champion
1 Meltagun
Icon of Chaos Glory
Heavy Support
Chaos Predator (185p) (Heavy fire power against veichles and such)
Twin-linked Lascannon
Side-sponsor Lascannons
Daemonic Possesion
Total: 1000p
I'll be going up against: Eldar, Imperial Guard, Grey Knights, Necrons, Orks and Chaos Daemons
However as I'm not sure if this list is totally rubbish or perhaps a good one I came here in hope of some feedback.
BTW I'm only going with plastic and finecast products, no metal. That's why i have no obliterators.
Thanks in advance for all replies!

Well, its not a bad list at all. While not being one of those popular competitive CSM builds (the sad thing about CSM is there are like one or two of them around these days), it still has some good unit choices.
Chaos Space Marines are the most point efficient guys in the Codex, and berzerkers charging into close combat usually tend to do some damage.
There are few things you might wish to consider, through:
Daemon Prince with two powers and MoT costs a little bit too much for 1000pt, I think. Maybe just Warptime and Wings would be enough for him.
Aspiring Champion without a Power Fist or Power Weapon (in regular CSM squads) is not a very good idea. One additional attack is not so much, and 10 ld... with IoCG you fail Moral tests quite rarely anyways. So, 30 points better spent elsewhere.
Not sure about Predator also, but maybe its just me.=)

Good list. I use something very similar at that point level. I'll echo ChaosForged's ideas:
DP is a bit overpriced for this point level. Slim him down to Wings and MoN, or Wings and Warptime
Aspiring Champs are a waste of points unless you're getting a Power Fist. Add a Fist to one Squad and send them out to a middle or flank objective. Drop the Champion from the 2nd Squad, boost that Squad up to 10 models, and change the Melta to an Autocannon. Put them on a home objective in cover, and crack Transports with the AC.

In the embrace of great Chaos, I am no longer afraid, for with its power and favor, I shall become the embodiment of that which I once most feared.....Death
Chaos Space Marines: W50, L23, D17
Warriors of Chaos: W15, L2, D0
CSM 6th Edition: W19, L6, D3
CSM 7th Edition: W17, L2, D2
Kill Team: W2, L0, D0 |

Thanks for the awesome replies!
How would it be if i put Mark of Slaanesh on the Daemon Prince with Lash of Submission and Wings? + Changing the things on the CSM.
Here's how it would turn out:
Daemon Prince (155p)
Wings
Mark of Slaanesh
Lash of Submission
8 Chaos Space Marines(180p)
Aspiring Champion with Power Fist
1 Meltagun
Icon of Chaos Glory
10 Chaos Space Marines(170p)
1 Autocannon
Icon of Chaos Glory
+ Berzerkers and Predator from original list. This leaves me with a total of 990 Points, any ideas for the extra 10 points?
A thing that i wonder is if you find the Predator overpriced?
If so is there anything to make more valuable for it's points or a better alternative?

I don't know if you're going to be getting the full use out of lash in this list. While there are many different tactics for it, one of the most effective is combining it with blast weapons. You'll still get use out of it with regards to getting enemy units in charge range, but it just seems out of place in your list.
I'd go with ChaosForged advice and just use a simple wings and warptime Prince.
In regards to the CSM, I'm guessing you're using the autocannon squad to sit back on an objective. I do a similar thing, but I use a missile launcher instead as it gives a bit more versatility.
Perhaps change the Pred to Autocannon and side Las, and use the extra points to put your melta CSM in a rhino with a combi melta?
Looks like a solid enough list for the points.

Maybe i can use a Defiler instead of the Predator and boost the 8-man squad?
And put the Wings and Warptime on the Daemon Prince.
HQ
Daemon Prince (155p)
Wings
Warptime
Troops
10 Khorne Berzerkers (300p)
Skull Champion with Power Fist
Dedicated Rhino with Extra Armour
10 Chaos Space Marines (225p)
Aspiring Champion with Power Fist and Meltabombs
2 Meltagun
Icon of Chaos Glory
10 Chaos Space Marines (170p)
1 Autocannon
Icon of Chaos Glory
Heavy Support
Defiler (150p)
2 Close combat arms
Total: 1000p
That will do the trick i hope.
Or what do you say?

Nonononono.
Hate to be a troll.
What are you using the DP for? like to shoot and assault?
Because you can get WoC and wings. works better. just keep him in cover till he gets there.
as for the defiler, no matter how cool it sounds to have that battlecannon ready to blast away, its a points waster. you can be much more efficient for less points, and a not as big target with 2 oblits. 3 if you can manage it by culling a squad.
personally i dont like power fists... power weapons are more efficient. melta bombs are a waste... at a 1000 point level there wont be that many tanks to kill. look at your list, and expect about the same. so meltabombs arent really worth it. plus, you'll want to be shooting, not assaulting a tank.
do a chaos lord with MoK and bloodfeeder in a rhino with the bersekers, change the defiler to two oblits. thats a game winning force right there. drop meltabombs too, and maybe get a third oblit. keep all oblits in seperate squds to maximise firing potential. the way i see it, just plasma cannon everything to death

so no Oblits here.
Defiler is a way to go . In my opinion, two DCCW not always do the job(especially when someone manages to immobilise your Defiler), its more versatile unmodified with Reaper autocanon and flamer. But its really up to you to decide. =)
About meltabombs, i agree with Cloudstalker.
As for Bloodfeeder... well, potential of 12 additional attaks looks promising, but there is 33% chance of lord poking himself in the eye and doing nothing in combat, so...
