On average I sleep between 8 to 10 hours a night, which from what I gather is just about right
For someone my age. I'm 17. Now my question is this: If I wake up at 2 in the afternoon
And stay awake till between 2 and 4 the next morning is 8 to 10 hours sleep enough?

I can't find anything on the Internet that states how long you should sleep based on how long you are awake. All help welcome.

That's my general sleeping pattern, but it'd be 12-10 hours, unless you spend 2 hours in a void during midday and 2pm

I'd say it's fine for the average teenager, seeing as though it'd be about 12 hours awake and 12 hours asleep.

Though in my currently sleep deprived state, I could have completely misread your post.

My sleeping patterns seem to be in synch with Avatar's.
I just don't know anymore what is what.
Am considering trying to stay awake through 'til tonight.
But when I have done that I still don't sleep until 5:0am.
Am not likely to stay awake anyway

Basically I think if you are healthy not doing drugs etc your body will tell you when to rise and when to sleep.

12 hours of sleep in one day?...Hmm, that's about what I average in three days..
Even on weekends I can't stay asleep longer than 6 hours..
But I would say Chibbi is correct...your body will wake you up when it's ready ti be up...unless an alarm clock does it first.

I wish I could get by on as little sleep as possible and be fully energized when awake!

The amount of sleep one needs is very much an individual thing. I detested Maggie Thatcher's politics but hated her for getting by on 4 hours of kip! no fair!

I don't know Chibbi...after a while the days start to blur together...
And I've been running on 4 maybe 5 hours a night ( and a ton of coffee) for over 20 years...figure one day my brain will just implode...but for now..I'm dandy.

When I was winding up the first chunk of research for my dissertation I not only got around 4 hours of sleep every 24 (finals were at the same time, so I had to teach and grade as well), but the 4 hours weren't consistent. Sometimes I would be up for 36-48 hours before sleeping, and sometimes I would be going to sleep at noon, while other time it would be at 1 a.m.

My work was a day late because I seriously had no idea what the date was. For a while I even thought it was still March even though it was May.

Life does not cease to be funny when people die any more than it ceases to be serious when people laugh.

Sleep tends to be very individual as I've discovered with my friends. I'm a night owl - I'll stay up till the wee hours of the morning and still get up the next morning. I probably average between 6-7 hours of sleep a night (typically asleep by 2:30 or 3, awake by 9:30). My friends are shocked at this amount, since I'm never actually tired during the day - I get on just peachy with 6 or 7 hours.

I generally sleep 7-8 hours.

I find I need less sleep if I stick to a regular sleeping pattern that involves sleeping when it is dark and being awake when it is light.

Another cool perk of getting older is that you need less sleep as you age. 5 years ago as a teenager, I needed 9 hours minimum or I was a cranky zombie.

As said its all individual. I tend to sleep more when I'm exhausted, not necessarily just per how long I've been up. For me the amount of sleep I need on a daily basis varies from eight hours up to twelve. If I did something particularly strenuous or got sunburnt I've been known to sleep up to sixteen to eighteen hours straight.
