Does this look playable? I made it with Army Builder. I have yet to read the rules though. Probably next time I swing by the local game store I'll pick up a copy of the rulebook. Is the Battlebarge too much points for the list? Should I be playing with more fighters/escorts?

Space Marine Fleet 1000

Battlebarge 475
-Master of the Fleet

Strike Cruiser Squadron 145
x1 Strike Cruiser

Nova Squadron 100
x2 Nova

Hunter Squadron 240
x6 Hunter

Sword Squadron 40
x1 Sword

The Barge is cool in 1000pts, however I would ditch the Strike Cruiser in setup.

Or go with 3 Strike Cruisers and no Barge,
Nova is expensive. You could take a Firestorm RSV.

The Sword cannot be alone, escorts are in 2-6 formations.

Hunters are really good.

No need to pickup the rulebook. All of the materials, rules, extras, etc are all on the gw site as pdfs:

Thanks, I'll give it a look. I had originally also wanted to try Imperial Navy or Chaos.

I kind of like the novelty of having a physical rulebook but in the meantime I'll definitely check out GW's site's resources.

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately the rulebook is years out of date. While it can still be used to learn the game, there are a lot of Errata which are already included in rulebook in the online pdfs on GW's website. The FAQ and Rules which Horizon linked are completely official, and probably what most BFG players you'll encounter will be using.

The idea is that it takes extra effort and time to write properly, and they’d rather save the time. If you can still be understood, what’s the harm? While most of the time a sloppy post CAN be understood, the use of proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling is generally seen as respectable and desirable on most forums. It demonstrates an effort made to be understood, and to make your post an easy and pleasant read. By making this effort, you can often elicit more positive responses from the community, and instantly mark yourself as someone worth talking to.

Imperial Navy & Chaos are good starters.

The BFG rulebook is indeed still a nice asset even though the v1.5 version is rigged with editorial mistakes (eg Nova Cannon has become scatter dice but the diagram refers to the old guess range system).

Yeah, at this point, the the best parts of the rulebook are the neat modeling sections (which are absent from the PDFs) and all of the great fluff it contains. And, while a lot of the rules mechanics need updating, at least the ship profiles are (mostly) correct.

Otherwise, I pretty much agree with what Horizon said about your list composition. Me personally, I would take the battle barge, as a 6+ armor battleship is going to be a beast for a lot of fleets to deal with at 1000 points. I find that Strike Cruisers need to be in squadrons of 2 or 3 to really be effective.
