I've been wondering...what exactly does each inch translate to IRL? Does 1" = 1' or something?

There really is no 'scale' in 40k, since everything is so abstracted.

Could you imagine if a Missile Launcher was only able to fire 48 feet? Or if a rifle could only fire a bullet 24 feet?

Interesting question...

I believe they state that they are 28mm, but the heads are 32mm, the guns are 30mm, and legs are 25mm.

GW calls it 'heroic 28mm' 28mm is a basterdized version of 25mm. most vehicles in 40k are 1/48 I believe.

So honestly there is no consistent 'scale' with GW minis.

woops mis read the question, no there is no scale with 40k, it's 'whatever workes to make the game more exciting'. There is no 'scale' no consitency.

The only time you really need to know about scale is in larger scale games ie micro armour, naval games, spaceship games etc etc. Most guns on a 40k table would have a range longer then the table. I mean honestly, a boltgun has only a 12 inch range??? It's just down to how fun of a game the developers can make.
