im new at warhammer, well the fantasy table top game

and i want to know how, you are ment to build a list

not to ask for list building ideas, just what you are allowed to put in a 2000 point list

like eg lords, heroes, core, special and rare, like how many points are allowed to be spent on them

ps: vampire count are the army im thinking of getting

a max of 25% of your army could be on lords (optional)
a max of 25% of your army could be on heroes (optional)
a min of 25% of your army must be on core
a max of 50% of your army could be on special (optional)
a max of 25% of your army could be on rare (optional)

At least one lord/hero must be designated as a general
It's advisable to have a sorcerer in your army.

Well, With VC you get heros who are both Sorceror and generals. So that covers that. But you'll have to be careful cause if the general dies then everyone dies.

First stop would be to get the big rule book. Beyond that there are 5 categories. Lords, Heroes, Core, Special, Rare. Point allowance are as follows. (All percentages are of the total points of the game, IE 2000 pts.)

Max 25% Lords
Max 25% Heroes
Max 50% Special
Max 25% Rares
Min 25% Core

Must take at least 3 units (IE 2 core units and a lord, etc.)

Pages 134 and 135 of the rulebook are your friends here.

Im a noob to WFB as well. Ive got a the rulebook and saw the percentage breakdown, but I also have the skaven rulebook (well a dl copy, not sure if I want to play them yet) and it says on pg 97 that for an army under 2000 point I cant have any lords, 3 heroes, up to 3 special, and only 1 rare. This seems highly restrictive and somewhat at odds with the main rulebook. So which is accurate? I hardly think its fair that I want a Warp Lightning Cannon for my rare which at 90 pts is nowhere near 25%

The rulebook is accurate, the Skaven book was written last edition. I suggest downloading the FAQ for any army you are going to play, which updates book to 8th Ed.

Min 500 Core
Max 500 Special
Max 500 Rare

DJ - you MUST download the errata for the skaven book: a lot has changed between 7th and 8th.

Go here for the main page with all the errata, including the BRB errata, on. You'll need to read the BRB one as well as there are quite a few changes!
