I have read some posts wishing that the background for 40k would move forward.

I have a different idea, would it be better to clearly fill in the ten thousand years in between 30k and 40k?
For just one example the first twelve of Abaddon's crusades haven't been expanded.

What do you think?

I am kinda bored with staying in the 41st millenia. I do not want to move backwards I want to get through the plots and see the war between Abaddon and the Space Wolves.
Or at least another war that has the imperium going into the chaos force's eye of terror and bringing the fight to them.

We shall see what will they write about after they finish Horus Heresy.

But according to rumors about 6'th edition - they will probably move to M42...

thank god i hate staying in the 41st forever. No chances of the story ever being pushed forward. I want another Badab War Conflict that would be awesome interchapter warfare is just too awesome to read about.

I was reading the SM codex and was interested in the ghoul stars and what the supernatural inhabitants of them had been all about... as they had supposedly threatened the whole galaxy and now have chapters just watching them. So they could expand on events only vaguely referenced.
Or they could take events already somewhat expanded, like the campaigns of Lord Solar Macharius, and fully flesh them out.

I guess the only unappealing thing about this is that we already know what the outcomes kinda are. By knowing the state of the imperium and its various institutions, we know that all of Abbaddon's previous crusades failed to some degree. That is taking into account that for them to really succeed he would have to make it to terra or at least break out of the cadian gate. On the other hand, the future has infinite possibilities concerning everything. So there is that.

I think this is happening.

The popularity of the HH books may lead to more series. As of right now, the interviening 10k years is all we have left.

So far only the "ages" of the Imperium (30k-40k) have been explained with few details for most:

-Age of Rebirth (M30-M32): Horus Heresy aftermath
-Age of Forging (M32-M34): Golden age of the Imperium
-Nova Terra Interregnum (M35): Nova Terra/Segmentum Pacificus split off from the Imperium for a Millennia
-Age of Apostasy (M36): gak hits the fan, lots of detail on this on Lexicanum
-Age of Redemption (M37-M38): Religious fervor/wars of faith peak and the Imperium is drawn into more and more wars.
-Age of Waning (M38-early M41): The Imperium slowly weakens under a multitude of new threats/wars
-Age of Ending (Mid M41-M42): First contact with Tyranids/Necrons, 13th Black Crusade, Armageddon Wars, Golden Throne malfunctioning. gak hits the fan.

There's a huge wealth of information on these periods, really rather strange more books haven't been written on them.

I'd like a new waagh to go down. yes we know armeggeddon... Ghasgkull(however you spell it) is still running around! lets have him take out a tyranid fleet or something, that'd be a good fight for both sides!

Yeah, but according to rumours there was going to be a plastic Thunderhawk gunship in the starter set, and the Hrud were due for release as a new faction.

Games Workshop have been sporadically filling-in the background for decades. Perhaps we'll get a Great Crusade/Horus Heresy-era supplement some day. Perhaps, once the Heresy storyline has been completed, we'll see stories set in other 'historical' time periods, and maybe even tabletop material too. This is, pure speculation, but it's more probable than the prospect of the timeline, which hasn't moved since 1987, advancing beyond M41.

Yea I want to see the plot thicken, not go back and elaborate. I think that should just be maybe a side quest of GW.

I kinda wonder what would happen if the Cadian pylons finally break apart (some fluff for the 13th black crusade said that they were cracking apart).

Didn't the Neconrs turn up and fix them before engaging the Chaos fleet and Blackstone fortresses?

Not sure why expanding the details and new stuff is exclusive - lets have both.
