Hey guys so i've just started painting tyranids and this is my first completed attempt. I've gone with the classic hive fleet leviathan colour scheme.

The way i painted was by priming with black, base coat with Calthan Brown, then Bleached Bone, then Skull white, washed with Leviathan Purple and finished with a drybrush of Skull White. The carapace was done with chaos black then feathered Hormagaunt Purple, then Warlock Purple, and finished with a 50/50 mix of Skull white and Warlock Purple. The gun was Chaos black, then Red Gore then finished with a drybrush of blood red.

It came out looking okay, but im going for high table top standards and above (bearing in mind i've been painting 6 months)

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks

i love it, it looks amazing. i've been paining nearly five years and my troop models don't look that good, (that being said i very rarely try to make them look amazing). i would stick with this, it is already above tabletop standard, and you really don't want to go too detailed with something like a gaunt that you will be fielding dozens of

It looks pretty good, but I'll give ya my approach:

Prime grey, base-coat skull white (citadel spray can), base-coat bleached bone (i didn't like the full-on bright white color). Talons and hooves were done in scab red, highlighted with blood red, then again with burning orange.

They're the only variations, besides (at the end) doing a dip of strong tone.

You're spot on, and it looks great. Keep up the great work. Not sure how to make this all that much better (besides my own changes, because they were a bit of "Hey, that would look cool!" ya know?)

Imo, if you wanna try for a slightly higher standard:

-Amp up the hooves and talons, however you see fit. They kinda blend in with the base at the moment, but that would be realistic anyway.

-Try cleaning up the carapace on the legs. I don't know if it's just the picture or not, but it looks like the feathering isn't complete, and/or there's black on the flesh.

That's all I've got. Good luck.

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?
