For those who play FS:A, has anybody had any experience playing with or against the pirates? What's the tactic and strategies that work for instance?

I plan to start FS:A with the gunship & corvettes, but I'm looking for more info on this "faction". Any help is much appreciated!

Same..the Marauders are definitely cool and I love the idea you could fight any other faction. I'm still trying to find more info on the game in general. So far the best info I've found comes from the vids posted up by MWG.

To be honest, I haven't gotten a chance to play these rules yet, but they do look to be an interesting faction! On the whole, the Marauders look to be a bit tougher than some of the other fleetsl, with higher DRs. This is balanced by the fact that they have no shields and their shooting isn't great. Not terrible, but just about average. On the plus side, they are fairly fast.

Considering those characteristics and looking at their MARs, this faction was clearly designed with ambush tactics in mind; use asteroids for cover, and then board the snot out of your opponent. Given that, this is a faction that will definitely do better if there is a lot of terrain on the field

Copy pasta from my post on the SG forums.

I had a game earlier today, and here's my findings (using Brethren against Relthoza):

Corvettes are annoying to the opponent. Mainly due to the MAR Small Target rule. My key targets are frigates or other small class ships before targeting med and large ships. Corvettes don't need the cloaking upgrade, but will definitely benefit from the shields. However with a 10 point cost, it's a tossup between fielding more corvettes, or tougher corvettes. I think with 1000 points, it's better to have the 35 point shielded corvettes mainly because 2 crits (which is enough to kill them) may be absorbed by the shield. Oh, and fully abuse that 15" movement. We have the fastest ships in the universe, so why not?

On the other hand, don't go into a straight up fight with mine laying ships. Either that or put them out of 4" of each other. They are extremely vulnerable to mine explosions.

Gunships are pretty decent even with the MAR Vulnerable. Getting into RB 2 is fairly easy, and while at a further distance, they can remain cloaked and shoot torps. The broadsides, while not exactly the best, is decent enough, but the forward fixed guns is a real killer. On an average they can damage cruisers on their own. With one link fire from another gunship, they can easily crit a cruiser. Fully linked, they can averagely crit a battleship.

My list for 500 points were:
3 Gunships with Cloak upgrade
3 Corvettes
3 Corvettes
3 Corvettes

I won the game against Relthoza with his BB shunting on his last turn with 1 HP left, and my gunships are at full strength.

Thanks for posting your expieriences with them! I curious to see how the Marauder BB would perform in a larger game.
