One of the things I decided I would do upon joining Dakka was a vivid description of the Deathstrike Missle's power on the battlefield. I've heard several individuals deride the Deathstrike as a silly one-shot (although upon writing I have neglected to search for 'Deathstrike' among the forums on Dakka. . .), but I got lucky!
On the very first turn of a game involving the Imperial Guard and a slew of Necrons my Deathstrike got a series of excellent rolls. Combined with good placement, the Necrons phased out after taking massive casualties.
I spent the entire time laughing, as I had never seen a game take as little time as that. From set up to phase out, the entire game took 30 minutes.
And then there was joy.

-Deathstrike is ten points more then a leman
-Front armor of 12
-For the price you can get you can get a two Griffons or a tooled up Basilisk or a Medusa or Collosus
-Can Scatter 2d6
-Does not ignore invulns so MC's and eternal warriors don't fear it.
-Cannot fire the turn it comes into play.
Soooo yeah, I'm one of the guys who doesn't field one because it's a silly one shot. I like the idea of this massive missle that's just waiting to be launched, but with flaws like that, I'd much rather take other options.

From setup to turn 1 shooting it took 30 minutes? My god, how long do your normal games take?

Utterly unreliable but fun.

This reminds me of the time my little brother's friend wanted to do a team match with some of the fellows at the flgs so he can learn how to play warhammer with his fully painted small force of csm. (Bye small I mean full 20-man squad of csm and Lord followed by 4 Termies)
One of the opponents got his Death strike (he fielded it for laughs and giggles to go alongside his allied withhunters force) to fire when my little brother's friend had his whole 20 man unit happened to have clumped together in the previous turn, and the missile happened to get the perfect shot and land dead center on all of them and wound all of them.
But then 20 successful saves later we were all quite shocked and surprised to this grand showing of Epic win and fail.

Given that the thread opened with the impossible event of a deathstrike firing on turn one, it's probably fitting that it should end with the impossibility of 20 CSM all having saves to take against it.

The only reason I really got it was for giggles anyways. I don't think I would ever field the thing in a normal game unless I had the extra points, and no other models. But since I could, and I did, it was nice that it paid off wonderfully!

I've had one experience with a deathstrike and it was glorious. During a 20 person apoc game someone fired a deathstrike, it scattered back onto itself. It took out itself, 2 baneblades, 8 carnifexes, Calgar, a couple of dreadnoughts and about 6 other assorted squads. Just beautiful.

The Apoc Deathstrike Vortex missile formation looks quite awesome. Giant Templates of remove everything that's not superheavy or Gargantuan (Those still gets screwed by it).
The things you are require to take is awesome anyway. Lord Commisar (Give the man a camo cloak!) and a blob squad are very useful together.

That's actually what I plan to pull together next. It's a really awesome formation, so I'll probably combine it with a warhound scout for support.

And did you have to cheat both times, or only that once with the Deathstrike?
(kidding, but beating necrons with IG is about as hard as making a space marine armor save, and Deathstrike's can't fire on turn one, so your other victory isn't much to crow about either...)

You're right. There were definately mistakes made all over during both games. But I thought the spectacle itself was worth crowing about, that's all.
