Hey everyone! Welcome to my Dark Eldar PLOG.

I've been playing 40k for about 10 years. My very first army was Dark Eldar; way back when they came with Space Marines in the starter box. But, the space pirate elves eventually retired to the shelf. My earlier years of 40k were marked by a short army attention span as I got bored with armies very quickly. I've played Chaos Night Lords, Necrons, Imperial Guard, Imperial Fists, Eldar, and Orks. But, when the new Dark Eldar came out, they instantly became the army of my dreams, and I think I'm pretty much done with my army speed dating because I've found the one I truly love.

I've been amazed by the incredible increase in the quality of GW miniatures over the past few years, so when the Dark Eldar rumors started, I knew they would be nothing short of stunning. And I was right. I love everything about this range of models, and I am so excited to collect a huge fleet of Dark Eldar so I can field whatever sort of army I feel like. I've bought and assembled about 1500 points already, and since I'm embarrassed to put these beautiful models on the table unpainted, I settled on a paint scheme and have started painting!

This is the first time I've done a PLOG. I'm hoping to get some feedback and tips on my painting, and also spark up some conversation about Dark Eldar army lists and strategy. But above all, this PLOG is here to motivate me to keep painting. I'm looking forward to the day when I can put a fully painted 2000pt fleet of these guys on the table.

So, now that all that is out of the way, here's my test model!

I was inspired to do a purple and blue scheme when I saw a battle table that GW posted during their storm of magic release; it had purple terrain with big blue crystals sticking out. So, I decided to do something along the lines of the Helliarch of the Sky Devils in the bottom right corner of page 75 of the codex. I tried different versions on about 5 warriors before I settled on this one.

The armor is based with a mix of 6 parts Liche Purple and 1 part Chaos Black. I then highlighted with Liche Purple and then Warlock Purple. The hair is Necron Abyss, Enchanted Blue, and then Ice Blue. The metal is Boltgun Metal. The flesh is Dheneb Stone with a wash of Delvan Mud. The bodysuit is Chaos Black with Codex Grey highlights. The armor and the body suit is washed with Leviathan Purple.

As cool as the warrior models are, I probably won't be fielding many; I like Wyches a lot more. So, I started painting some Wyches, and here are the first 5!

And here's a closeup of my favorite one so far.

The pupils are the same Dark Purple that I used for the armor.

And, here is a Reaver!

I am going to do some freestyle designs on the front hulls of my Reavers and Raiders and such, but I haven't settled on what sort of designs they're going to be. But they will be Ice Blue and I think it will really tie the models together.

I think I'm doing the bodysuits wrong (the black cloth undernearth the purple armor, the Wyche Suit I guess). I don't really know how to highlight them well, can anyone give me some tips? I've been splashing some Codex Grey highlights here and there, hoping they fall in the right places. I do like how the Leviathan Purple wash gives the body suit a slight purple tint.

Can't wait to paint some more stuff to post up here! I really want to paint my Raiders, Ravagers, and Venoms so I can actually glue down the crew.

I haven't settled on an army list yet. I've only been able to play about 7 games with them so there's still a lot of stuff I want to play test. But, I do really like Duke Sliscus and have been basing a lot of lists around him. I also really like Baron Sathonyx and have built 10 hellions for him to fly around with. Though I will probably end up doing something the the Duke and some Haemonculi, here is a list I made with the Duke and the Baron.

150 – Duke
105 – Baron

346 – (2x) 4 Trueborn with blasters, Venom w/ SC

151 – 9 Warriors, Raider with FF
201 – 11 Hellions, Heliarch with Agonizer
368 – (2x) 7 Wyches, Shardnet and Impaler, Haywires, Hekatrix with Agonizer, Raider

130 – 5 Scourges with 2 Haywire Blasters
156 – 6 Reavers with 2 Heat Lances

230 – (2x) Ravager with FF
165 – Razorwing with Disentigrators, Splinter Cannon, and FF

2002

So once again, this isn't the list I've settled on, but it incorporates a lot of my favorite things about the codex.

If you're still reading, thanks for reading!!! More stuff will be coming soon. Take is easy folks.

-Jeff
