I found some old bottles of the Citadel spray primer (black, green, and white) that are from around 2000 or 2001. The seem to spray fine onto cardboard. Any reason I should not use them on my minis?

I also found a bottle of matte sealer from that same time frame, how about it?

I don't see why not, but if you're skeptical use a test model.

I have found that if a can is stored inside it can last years but prob not 10. If stored outside bout 6-12 months

Shake the buttery out of it and do a test model. Wait til it's fully dry to make sure it doesn't frost, and if not you're golden

Thanks for the info, I will give them a shot later on.

If they spray fine on cardboard, you should be golden. It might be worthwhile to try it on a piece of sprue, but there's no reason you have to try it on a model first.

Also, if it doesn't come out well the first time, soak the nozzles in some paint thinner and try again.

Great find!

Yup, like others have said, try it on a test sprue. Also, make sure the spray comes out evenly and doesn't splatter. Having it stored for that long, it is possible the can has lost most of the pressure meaning the spray comes out unevenly. However, if your test sprays comes out fine then use it!

The rarefied atmosphere

I had a whole bunch of these up until a few years ago of similar age. Are these english or american spraycans? My english ones leaked a whole bunch of nasty gunge that turned into something like looked like the leftovers after using hot glue gun, a sort of hard resin like substance tinted an amber colour. The spray cans were the second english version of the colours, not the short small english cans with all the chapter colours, but the tall thin ones with a beige label and the space orc emblem on them. Blood angels red, dark angels green, striking scorpion. I have an american ultramarine blue which is virtually identical in colour to the army painter brighter blue spray.

My experience was that they tended to run out of propellent yet still have paint in them so be aware you may not get the original mileage out of them that you may expect. You won't get a whole army but a few tanks etc. Also be aware you may experience a lot of blockage in the nozzle which for me was fixable with a bit of solvent, however the blockage originated inside the can itself and in the end I had to use goggles and unsafe methods involving a screwdriver to coax the paint out.

I have no idea why they stopped making the colours. Now I buy army painter.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Just thought I would update everyone.

The paint worked fine.

But, the problem was that over the past decade, the propellant leaked out of the cans. So I was only able to get about a half dozen guys sprayed before they gave out and were unable to spray any more.
