Working on some wooded terrain. I want to make it so most of them are covered by the woods.

Rats. Forgot to ask for a number rather than a comparison. So 2.5 -4 guardsmen. Approximately .75" (?) per guardsman would be 1.875-3" tall. Yes?

3 inches is a safe bet. 5 is a decent height if guards are about 6 ft tall that's only a 30ft tree which is modest.

This is a difficult question to answer because I think it varies pretty wildly by the specific MC. A Tomb Spyder is much smaller then a Nemesis Dreadknight, which is much smaller then a Squiggoth...

What army are you playing? What army are you typically playing against?

I play Tau, Dark Eldar, and Eldar. My friend plays Necrons and Grey Knights. My local gaming stores armies are: Tyranids, Tau, Grey Knights(2), Imperial Guard, Blood Angels(2), Vanilla Marines, Necron, Dark Angels(2), Dark Eldar(3), Sisters of Battle, Chaos Demons, Orcs(2), and Eldar(2). Each player has between 1 and 3 armies(one guy claims to have 6 armies but I've only seen 3), and these numbers do not reflect me or my friend. The only army I've not seen on the table yet is Chaos Marines.

Try to make all the scenery around 5 inches tall, in my opinion. I think you should be covered that way.
