1 - CCS - Master of Ordinance - 2 Body Guard - Medi Pack - Plasma Gun - Vet HW ML Team - Camo Cloak

1 - Yarrik

Elite

2x - Storm Trooper 5 man w/ 2x Melta (deep strike re roll)

Troops

1 - Vets w/ 3x Snipers - Vet HW Missile Team

1- Vets w/ 3x Grenade - Vet HW Missile Team

Fast

1 - Armored Sentinel w/ Plasma Cannon

Heavy

LRBT w/ Las Cannon

How it works

GL Krak with Yarrick First in to attack / assault. Snipers cover with CCS giving orders. HW Krak Missile for Long Range stand off Fire on my target if in cover / Bring it down to armor. Sentinel and LR respond to enemy armor. Storm DS on out of range armor or Troops.

This is very defensive and so you don't end up in a stand off run HW to Cover near center of board if cover exists. If in a stand off use Yarrick and Sentinel to draw them out and have ST's help.

-remove yarrick, to much points for what he can do
-take a full plasma command with chimera
-take melta or plamsa vets in chimera's
-sentinels arent worth it, only outflanking scout sentinels with autocannons

don't think, you have to know it if you want to be a commander

Plasma cannon armoured sentinels are pretty crazy, they are a highly dynamic and ( at AV12 ) pretty tough choice. They have the chance to do serious damage to MEQ and TEQ and light transports, and can move the whole time.

IMO Yarriks aura and abilities make him = to having a Commissar in all my squads he is near (not to mention that i can't choose commissars) also He is my only melee option unless i grab five Ogryn. I need Something to hold back melee while I move (tactically retreat) troops and want something that will actually do some damage.

If i put in Ogryn i lose some range(1/3 of the HW and 3 GL's).

if i put in chimeras i would just do full mech infantry with meltas.

Trying to go defensive. if this were Napoleonic Yarrick, sentinel and the GL are cavalry and the rest artillery. Need something to defend my ML's

First of all, congratulations on one of being the few lists I have seen that use Yarrick, specially at 1k points. But if this is ment to be competitive, I see some serious problems....

First off, your only long range AT is your BS 3 lascannon on your LRBT. Your MLs? Your glancing AV 14 on a 6... really, the LC is the only option. You may think the versitility of the Frag may make up for not being able to hurt armor, but I will counter that by saying small marker and 2" spread of figs means your only effecting 2-3... maybe 4 on a shot but it is roughly 50% on wounding stuff and anything with real armor get's it save. You will be really lucky to kill even one guy unless it is a tight packed IG blob. I will counter the AC will fire on the same vehicles that you would fire MLs at (AV 12 of less) and it is just as effecient as frags against infantry,,, but with 2 shots and 5pts less.

GLs and snipers are a waste on Vets. GLs blow (str 3 frag and Str 6 krak??? Really???) and you could spend 30pts and have a 3 man Ratling sniper squad, being alot cheaper. Problem with snipers though is their best target are MCs and not alot else.

Sentinals have the problem of it is really easy to get side shots on it due to the small base and it is BS 3, making it incrediblly fragile for the points spent on it and not very effective offensivily with a 50% hit rate.

The Storm Troopers are fine, but they are coming in on reserve.. and you have no Astropath. I personally do not feel it is worth while to have a Astropath unless your brining in 3+ units from reserve/outflanking. But, this means your best AT unit might not get in till round 3-4, and at the best round 2, allowing your opponent 1-2 rounds of fire/use.

Yarrick, as cool as he is, is super expensive. In small games, most people rather have the troops or vehicles that you could get with those 185pts. You really might want to hold off on him till you build up to a 2k point game.

CCS... you have the right idea, as foot Guard need Orders. But a Medi pack is super expensive and takes away a special weapon slot. Body Guards are also expensive and really bring little to the table to keep your generic commander alive. The ML has been talked about, so a AC or LC is really the best option there as well.

Yarrick screams 'assault' Guard, so let me give a krack at this...

CCS - 220pts
Vox, Plasma guns, LC, Creed, camo cloaks

Yarrick - 185pts (blob)

Ratlings - 30pts

Platoon
PCS - 60pts
4x Flamers, Plasma Pistol

PIS - 80pts (blob)
Melta gun, Vox, PW, Melta bomb

PIS - 75pts (blob)
Melta gun, PW, Melta bomb

Vets - 140pts
3x plasma gun, LC, Vox

HWS - 75pts
3x ACs

LRBT - 150pts

I wanted to keep the LRBT and Yarrick, but the two are alot of points and I had to take some risks I normally wouldn't. I like to get a Lord Commissar for HWSs to be within 6" of to get the Lord's leadership for Orders and Morale/pinning tests. Yarrick is to valuable to sit back for that, so your HWS is not as effective as it could be. Yarrick is leading the blob, but as a IC, he can now be targeted in close combat where a 35pt Commissar isn't.

You have two BS 4 Lascannons that you can issue "Bring it Down!' to (with a Vox re-roll as needed) make them twin linked. Same thing goes with the ACs, but will be harder due to the lower Ld.

Creed can issue 'For Cadia!' to the blob for them if they get a chance to charge.

Good luck and if anything, I hope this gives you some food for thought!

if you're going to use creed, you may as well use kell for his Listen up Maggots! rule. 4 orders at ld10, you won't need vox.... so ifyou drop all vox, and the PCS flamers, you *might* have some points for a commissar in the blob with a pw... maybe.

Couldn't afford Kell, and the Voxs are a cheap fix. Couldn't afford the 45pts for a Commissar and a PW either incase Yarrick is killed. 1000pts is 1000pts... can only do so much.

What I want to do is make this so I never have to attack only defend and wait for them to make the mistake.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Also I lost an assault to a 2 man Scout SM team vs a full vet team twice in the same game. Never want to enter melee combat or come within 24" of something unless I'm willing to let those units tactically die.

If this is a fun list and not a competitive list, then asking for help doesn't matter. 2/3s of the games are objective based games, so if you do not take objectives, you will lose those games.

Lesson learned then I guess. There are only two IG units that are decent at close combat... blobs and Ogryns. Besides, if you do not want to get into close combat, why are you using Yarrick?

Combined Squads (pg 37 IG Codex)

Platoon Infantry Squads can be combined, a term called a blob. Properly kitted out blobs have at least one Commissar, power weapons for the Commissar and every Sergeant, and Melta bombs for the Sergeants for walker (dreadnaughts) protection. I recommend melta guns for the special weapon slots.

Defensive blobs usally take heavy weapons like ACs and are used to protect artillery from Deep strikers, drop pods, and outflankers. They form a barrier to keep units out of melta range and to keep them from assaulting.

So what i can have is 26(two infantry 1 SW) troops grouped up and they all attack at once and move like they are one group even in melee?

But if so they lose a melee by one then in a sweeping advance I lose 20+ troops.

I'm new to 40k so this is helping a lot btw.

Do you understand wound allocation? Pg 39 base rule book. You should also go over the IC rules to understand the difference between upgraded characters and IC characters. Pretty much a 35pt Commissar and Sergeant can not be singled out for wound allocation while Yarrick can. Blobs end up using the lasgunners as wounds, but the Commissar makes them Stubborn and a static Ld 9, despite wounds inflected on the blob.

no, you can only combine the guardsmen squads. But otherwise, yes. If you're going to, you have to combine them before the game starts, and from that point on they are treated as one unit.

And yes, that is a risk. That's why you take commissar's, for stubborn and a ld re-roll. That's also why Yarrick is a bit risky - he's an IC, so he can be targeted in close combat, unlike normal commissars.

They clearly state what units can and can not be part of a blob. The PCS can not be part of the blob, pretty much just Platoon Infantry Squads.
