Hey Everyone,

I Just started looking into Warhammer 40k and ive been reading alot of the Gaunts ghost books and such but more or less my favorite tactics are Swarming and Blasting things apart so my preference is IG to start. However I was looking at them and it seems to me that they are more expensive then the other armies simply because of the sheer number of units you need to make them work. anyways I want to see what my options are and I thought about buying and assembling them piece by piece from ebay and buying parts off other people and then just getting small boxes and building them up since im so new I figured it would be best to do trial and error first before i get into big vehicles and such... soooo

Here is my question to start a very small IG army is the structure as follows:

HQ:

Command Squad (5 units)

Troops:

Troop 1 CS (5 units)
Troop 1 Squad 1 (10 units)
Troop 1 Squad 2 (10 units)

Troop 2 CS (5 units)
Troop 2 Squad 1 (10 units)
Troop 2 Squad 2 (10 units)

55 units total for basic structure

Minimum sized platoons aren't very good ideas. Get more bodies in those platoons.

Yes I know but im just asking for pure understanding of the structure of the IG, in other words is this the bare minimum needed?

You can save money by using veterans. Then the bare minimum for a guard army would be,

HQ- command squad ( 5)
Troop1- veteran squad (10)
Troop2- veteran squad (10)
