Greetings!

Sorry if this is in the wrong area, but I'm looking for suggestions on creating my first army.

I have the Orks half of a Black Reach set coming to me from a friend who doesn't need them, but I had started buying Chaos at one point, so I have a few models for that (as well as paints for a World Eaters color scheme). For fluff I really like Chaos, but Orks are pretty sweet and they look fun to play.

So right now I have a squad of Zerkers and the Battleforce for CSM, and the aforementioned Orks. Looking for recommendations on which to expand, and with what. Since I was thinking World Eaters, perhaps something that's more in-your-face for Chaos? I'd probably play Orks in a similar fashion.

Orks and Chaos are pretty different armies,
orks is a verry swarm army while Chaos are very elite.
Personnaly, I like chaos.
Remember for chaos, Daemon Princes are verry good,
posessed are not good.
World eaters are cool, make sure to get rhinos for your Zerkers though.
Oh yes, and put wings on any Daemon princes you get

I'd heard about the Rhinos for Zerkers bit, and since I was planning on having two squads of Zerkers, I'm planning to buy an extra Rhino.

I really am leaning toward Chaos, it just seems a shame to have all these greenskins and nothing to do with them. I suppose I could always work on an Orks army later.

Just out of curiosity, why are possessed so bad? Should I drop them?

hmmmm you say orks are a horde army, they have the potential to be a horde army, but they can work in a variety of ways (almost all of which will include outnumbering your foe quite heavily. firstly you have speed freak armies, orks+trukk+???=profit.... when you have a ton of transports each carrying 12 very angry/drunk/confused ork boys 19" across the field on the first turn, and easily getting a 2nd turn charge off, then you know you are doing something right. my personal list uses elements of what I would class as speed freaks, granted using only 2 trukks full of boys.... but then comes the next army type, my personal favourite, Nobs (dont say a thing ) warboss+nobs+???=profit, in this case ??? represents your warboss making a unit of nobs into a troops choice, you can potentially have 2 units of 10 nobs in a trukk each being accompanied by a warboss.... add power klaws into the mix, and lets just say anything short of a reaver titan isnt going to last long. best way to equip a nob squad, 'eavy armour, 2 power klaws 2 big choppas, and a painboy, with a waaagh! banner, you have around 50 attacks at a minimum str of 5, 8 of those str 9 and ignoring armour the restjust swamping your enemy with armour saves.... and whats best, if they survive to attack back you've got a 4+ save and then a feel no pain save as well.... with 2 wounds per nob.... the only way to make this better is by putting these nobs on bikes.... but its well worth it, they then have a 4+ cover, 4+ armour and that feel no pain, all at toughness 5... my vote is you take the orks.

the assault on black reach is a brilliant deal, the deffkoptas are unique in that you cant get them anywhere else, and you get 5 nobs and 20 boys to make a solid start with. =D

PS3 fanboy: jesus owns a ps3.

XBOX 360 fanboy: So does Satan. Thor and Odin own 360s though.
Jesus promises the end of evil, Thor promised the end of Ice Giants.
I DON'T SEE MANY ICE GIANTS AROUND.

Go Orks first, to build up a good foundation, then once you get a good feel, you should move on to Chaos.

Thanks for the replies

What makes you say that, Kilroy?

Orks, though brutish, are pretty easy to get a grasp on once you look through the strengths and weaknesses of each. Plus, instead of being the kind of "All-Rounder, Middle of the road" army like Meqs usually are, Ork lists always have a single purpose to them, though that purpose can vary. Read over the Ork Tactica here, maybe you'll get what I'm trying to say. It seriously helped me out.

Is Chaos that much more hard to play that I shouldn't go with them first?

Basically, I'm gonna say yes.

Why is that, exactly? I mean, I hate to press, but this is going to help me make a decision. I would prefer to play Chaos, as I like their fluff and visual style better, but I'd like some more information. What makes Chaos so much more difficult?
