...if the army you have just isnt working for you. You have invested a lot into this army and have a rather large amount. Not really wanting to trade it because you know your not going to get an equal value out of it. You have tried everything you can think of short of having someone else make the list/play it for you. Advise?

Why would you have a large collection of an unworkable army in the first place?

What isn't working?

Your signature indicates you are making an astartes chapter.

If it is a "my army sucks" scenario, you can go with a "counts as" army and use Space Wolves or Blood Angels rules with your own chapter. Its also possible to do some conversions and turn your guys into chaos. For instance I have a lot of Black Reach SMs. Once I manage to get around to them, I can paint them as blood ravens, and then mix in chaos guys (because blood ravens are are basically chaos now).

If I really had tried everything I think I would probably just play the army anyway and forget about winning and just try to enjoy the game in other ways, like just being a thorn in the side for your opponent.

If I didnt want to play with them any more I would repaint them and take my time and enjoy it. Then display them and think about another army, and made sure I enjoyed the new one and could actually play it.

Failing all that I would borrow a friends army for a game, or use another army I have and make sure that its related to that army (maybe I need to retrain my brain to work with them?)

But I guess its all about personal preference in the end.

@Medium:

Spoiler:
No, they're not all Chaos, Gabriel Angelos becomes Chapter Master at the end of DoW2: Retribution after killing Kyras. Kyras is the one that fell to Chaos, but no one really knew about except for Angelos and Captain Diomedes

I'd stop collecting that army, but keep the models in case I change in the future and want to collect it again.

As an example, I got, on a whim, some Chaos Daemons models last year for my birthday. I stopped collecting them and shelved them a few days later, because I just didn't like the idea of playing as such a completely evil faction. Didn't even get the Codex. This year, I got back into them - oddly enough, around the time of my birthday - and I got the Codex and played a game with a lot of proxies. Ended up liking them. I got back into them because of a roleplay I did with a good online friend involving a small faction of good-natured creatures of the Warp joining his cause. I'm still ironing out the fluff, though I've neglected it for a week or two now.

But I digress. What I like to play changes so frequently that the best strategy for me is to keep models from armies I'm not currently interested in. Selling them off would cost me money, because when I'd inevitably want to play that army again, I'd end up replacing much of what I would've lost. Since used models don't sell for as much as they can be bought for when new, and I am loathe to buy from end-users for personal reasons, I end up with a net loss of money.

First question is how isn't it working for you? On the tabletop? You're not winning? or you just don't like the feel of the army? or option 3: other?

Blood Angels... I see threads and articles about how they are still very competitive and they handle pretty much everything through versitility. I just cant wrap my head around them.

I collected a lot of models for the army because I, as I said, tried just about everything possible. I have tried everything from foot slogging dreadnoughts to tripple StormRaven.

This is a very good point. Talked to the signifigant other about trading it off and she pretty much told me I was stupid because I would never get what I have in invested back out of it.

Its not working for me in the aspect that Im not winning at all. I guess it could be that I dont like the feel of the army. I dont know what it is. As said befor, I have tried many different varieties of lists. Just cant wrap my head around the concept of the army.

I think you may be rushing yourself to make a choice. I agree with the above posters.Def keep your army and start collecting a new one. I dosent take that long and once you get a good kill team move on to 500pts and progress. My good friend trades his army at least 5 times a year. But every year he wants one of his old armys back not to mention the hit he takes every time he does.

I personally have hit this same wall. and on 2 occasions almost traded my Tau. Cant figure out if it is A: Im not good enough B:My opponent is too good C:My list sucks D:Misplaying during the game. It changes every game. I have become as another poster said a thorn. I start every game thinkin Im going to make him pull off 4 or 5 of his coolest models with my railguns.

Experience from owning Tau as a my first and main army says to just keep being a large anomaly of a failure with the army and take it with a hobbling, but still strideful manner.
