While looking at the Ogre Catriders on the GW site I noticed that they can parry while mounted if given a shield. Is this a unit specific rule, or have I missed a FAQ somewhere?

I am assuming you are talking about the text under the mourfang cavalry listed in the profile on the GW site.

I have yet to purchase the OK book, but from the looks of that text, its likely that this is strictly an OK thing. Parry saves are not given to mounted characters as per the BRB. There is no FAQ I am aware of that changes this.

It's an army specific thing, ore more specifically, an item specific thing.

I believe I remember the item being the Ironfist. Currently, it merely acts as a shield for the model equipped with it. Additionally, models equipped with the item may use a parry save even while mounted. This is an exception to the normal rule. Currently, Mournfang Cavalry are the only cavalry that can get a parry save.

It is indeed the ironfist. It retains all the benefits of a shield, even when mounted.
