I've always wondered why GW hasn't updated any Special Character models (Except Commisar Yarrick, Gazz and Calgar).

I think Forge World should release a line of new character models such as:

A properly sized Abaddon

A Kharn that looks like he's fighting, not screaming at the sky

Dante in sexy new jumppack with wings

A huge crazy Nightbringer

ALL ELDAR ASPECT CHARACTERS!!!! (Jain'Zar..? Is by far the ugliest model in 40k. more so than the Crimson Fist guy with the hair and breakdancing pose0.

What would you guys like to see recast as something new and impossing?

Because they never used to get used anyway, since they were overpriced and required certain points levels to be used. Even before that, they were, IIRC, opponents permission.

Now they are encouraging their use, so any they think will actually sell well get a new model. In the case of all the Ultramarines characters, well, can't let the poster boys not get new models.

Whilst Abaddon, Ragnar, Mephiston and others could do with improved sculpts, Games Workshop do have other priorities - whole armies like Tau, Tyranids and (until recently) Dark Eldar, whose players are either lumbered with decade-old sculpts or getting by with only half an army. Oh, and Warhammer, a good number of whose players are still stuck with 20 year-old sculpts.

Look upon it as an opportunity to kitbash - the loyalist and traitor Astartes models which deserve replacement could all be knocked together pretty easily from plastic kits and a bit of greenstuff. The Phoenix Lords, I'll grant you, would be more difficult, but they're hardly vital to an army build.

Also, as Loki has said, the ubiquity of special characters is a very new thing - I can remember forbidding one of my regular opponents from fielding Ghazghkull every bloody week. Maybe (if we're lucky) 6th edition will steer away from the present trend.
