Subject: Escalation League - 750 Ogres

My local store is also starting an escalation league. I'm looking at 750 points, 1 hero/lord, 2 core, and 1 special with no restrictions on points for unit types. The idea is a fun league so there weren't any Skaven death stars last week and I don't expect to see anything like that this week either. I'm joining after the first week but I have no idea what anyone else is bringing.
Bruisers are really nice but at the moment I'm looking at a Butcher as my lord choice so I can dispel and cast augments. The lore attribute is pretty nice, too.
173 Butcher (Lv2, Ironfist, Ironcurse Icon, Talisman of Endurance)
180 Bulls x5 (Ironfists, Bellower, Standard)
222 Bulls x6 (Ironfists, Crusher, Bellower, Standard)
172 Leadbealchers x4
Total: 747
Any comments or suggestions?

Looks ok, although only having Ld7 is a problem. Not much you can do about it with the points though.

Yea, I'm probably going to get stomped until I get a BSB in the mix but I want to how the new Ogres play as I continue to learn WHFB rules.

to start out with its probabbly ok.
at that low points, if your units are taking panic tests you have probably already lost the game.
conversely, that is an idea for you to use if you roll Braingobbler for magic. a single failed panic test for a unit at this level is disasterous.

I don't know about having just a lvl 2 Butcher. You give up a lot not having a standard. And while I can understand wanting to see how the magic plays out, you only got 2 spells and likely most races you run into have cheaper and/or higher level casters than you and might be able to shut you down in terms of casting.
I'd say at this low level take advantage of Ogres' natural abilities: stompyness.

I don't know, Magic is a good thing to have. I don't know of any armies that would want to put down a Lvl3 at this level because of the expense.

Yeah, you may be right about that. But I still think the value you get from a powerhouse Bruiser with banner > 2 spells that may or may not go off.
