Good Morning.
I've tried a few times using Matte Varnish from Vallejo in my airbrush to clear coat my work. It worked great the first time but the past few attempts have not been as good. It looks like the varnish goes on a little hazy, Almost like its got grey dust on it. What am I doing wrong here? I've tried thinning the varnish with water and Windex. I've also tried varying the distance of the mini to the airbrush. I've tried it with 3 different varieties of Vallejo varnish and its the same each time. Im using an Iwata Eclipse AB. Any tips or tricks on using Matte Varnishes in Airbrushes would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

The haze / dustiness is from the particles drying inflight, leaving a rougher surface (microscopically) than you want. You'll find if you wipe it with a damp brush, the dustiness will go, but come back when it dries.

Lower pressure, higher flow; you want it to go on pretty wet. More water in the mix may help to, as would shifting to a a more gloss mix.

And keep an eye out for the conditions when you spray. Varnish tends to fog up, when it's too hot or humid while you're using it.

As always, enjoy and have fun!

thanks guys. Conditions are good, I'm in an Air conditioned room so humidity is not a factor ( or i should say should not be). I'll try wetting the mix alittle more and see how that fairs.
