I have about twenty Imperial Guarsmen that, thanks to my woeful painting abilities, I would like to re-paint. I'm wanting to strip them, but because I am English I don't have access to the highly praised Simple Green. I heard Dettol was a good option, but I'd like to hear some suggestions before I go throwing money at people behind cashier desks.

It's good stuff. Normal brown Dettol, cover the models, soak overnight. The paint should come off like a big wobbly sock under the hot tap, any remnants can be scrubbed off with an old toothbrush. Obviously the longer you leave them soaking the easier the paint comes off, I've taken multiple layers of paint and primer off with a couple of days of soaking. It'll break down superglue bonds if there are any but if you're repainting them that's not a problem.

Not as good for making sandwiches though.

Thanks for the info, I'll see if I can get hold of any.

It'll be in pretty much any supermarket.
