Yep, hot on the heels of the currently popular Draigowing list, comes yet another one. Truth be told, I have been working on/testing this list for several weeks, and was naturally very happy to see Blackmoor do so well with his variation recently at the NOVA. This list has gone through many iterations: Single Land Raider/Stormraven and Land Raider/Dreads only, etc. I have finally settled on this one, as I think it is probably the most capable list out of all the iterations I tested (though I still am somewhat fond of the single Land Raider variant, it does fold to lots of firepower some days - and other days it lasts the entire game (even against DE Lance spam).

Anyway, without much further ado:

HQ - 490
Lord Commander Kaldor Draigo - 275
Grey Knight Librarian - Warding Staff, 1x Servo Skull - 215
Quicksilver, Sanctuary, Shrouding, Might of Titan, Warp Rift

Troops - 1030
10x Paladins - 2x Hammer (1x MC Psycannon), 4x Halberd (2x MC Psycannon), 4x Sword (1x MC Psycannon), Psybolt - 670
5x Paladins - Banner, 2x MC Halberd (1x Psycannon), 1x MC Sword (1x Psycannon), 1x MC Hammer - 360

Fast Attack - 206
Stormraven Gunship - TL Assault Cannons, TL Multi-Meltas, Searchlight - 206

Heavy Support - 272
Dreadnought - Psybolt, Twin TL Autocannons, Searchlight - 136
Dreadnought - Psybolt, Twin TL Autocannons, Searchlight - 136

The 5 man Paladin squad goes with the Librarian in the Stormraven typically. Although depending on the type of list I'm facing, I'll either reserve it or start with it on the table. I have not experimented with combat squadding the 10 man unit and embarking the non-psycannon division of the squad into the SR with the Libby. If I can achieve a nasty alpha strike with a ton of firepower, I will start the Libby in the Stormraven by himself simply as a means to extend his support range.

With Grand Strategy, I can have 5 scoring units potentially - rock hard scoring units at that. Draigo stays outside usually with the 5 or 10 man unit of Paladins (if they don't combat squad) and absorbs ID shots.

What do you folks think? I think it's a pretty solid, tight list. I have had lots of success with it, however I always like to get input to make sure I'm not missing any opportunity to tighten the list even further.

Thanks as always, Dakka.

Damn, I was thinking of running a list like this. First planning on trying out a DraigoWing a few times at 1500, since I play a lot of games at that level....

I am a bit confused about the banner in a 5 man squad. Seems like an expensive upgrade for just 5 guys. Why not throw that on the 10 man squad instead?

Also, have you had any problems running a not completely unique squad (your 10 man)?

I haven't had problems yet with the 2 common halberds and 2 common swords mainly because Terminators are just so inherently resilient, I have never taken more than 1 wound per allocation at a time, though I know it's entirely possible. Most of the time, I'm only allocating armor saves on those common ones anyway so the chances of rolling snake eyes are pretty low. Trust me though, I have definitely considered mixing in falchions for allocation purposes...it's just really tough to fit in points-wise. It also helps that I combat squad them and mix up the units anyway so that they're all mostly diverse, if not completely diverse.

The banner goes in the 5 man squad because if I were to take it in the 10 man squad, it would be a waste because 10 Paladins have a ton of killing potential anyway, they usually don't need the extra attack/free activation. I put the banner in the 5 man squad because that's usually the squad that goes in the Raven, which means it's a specialized assault squad that I point at things I want destroyed *theoretically*, so I want them to definitely have a little more killing potential on the assault. Plus, I usually combat squad the 10 man unit anyway so it ends up being the same.

Only way I have been able to justify a pure Paladin Draigowing @ 1500 is with 2 regular Psydreads and 11 Paladins with Libby + Draigo. It's 15 models, but it can definitely do some good work.

I was considering something sort of like that: Driago, 2 groups of 5-6 Paladins, lots of dreads.

Have you fielded this list yet? If so how did it stand up? I have been having trouble finding the right way to field my Draigowing @ 2k.

I played a really good guard player saturday with a list close to urs, and won twice. He was running two executioners and a demolisher with plasma sponsons. The list is reallllly good i run it at 1850 with 3 psyfileman, 15 pallys all psycannoned up draigo and a libby. Good stuff.

You're libby is too expensive. There is no need to be a mastery level 3 and quicksilver is bad, So few things are over initiative 6. I would find points to take a techmarines with rad and psychotroke grenades

I would tank shock your 12 man Dooshbag unit 9 times a turn and laugh as it runs off the board.

Besides that it seems like a pretty derp list, I dont like it because it cant with C&C or Objectives, but whatever have fun!

What a constructive comment! Since paladins are troops where is the problem with objectives? List seems fine to me besides the libby which is quite expensive. Otherwise you are gonna have fun with it cause paladins are nail hard.

plus theres this little thing called unyielding anvil that makes pretty much anything but hqs scoring :p But the tank shocking is annoying i did have someone in a land raider tank shock my pallys off an objective.

Yeah, tank shocking can be annoying -- it's seldom game winning in the way that some rather over-enthusiastic proponents claim.

Most Draigo led lists that have at least 2 x 5 paladins are viable. What else is added in terms of support/extra paladins is mainly down to playing style rather than anything else. Personally I like librarian, two ravens, two dreadnoughts and 5 interceptors (in essence just swapping 5 paladins for a raven and 5 interceptors from the OP's list). But the OP's list looks solid.

Follow these two simple rules to ensure a happy Dakka experience:

Rule 1 - to be a proper 40K player you must cry whenever a new edition of the game is released, and always call opposing armies broken when you don't win.

Rule 2 - Games Workshop are always wrong and have been heading for bankrupcy within 5 years since the early 90s.

Looks like a cheap army to build, to boot. I have been rocked by 2.5k Draigo wings before, S5 Storm bolters are nuts.

Might have to invest in one of these armies just because buying, building it, and painting it would be minimal effort (versus that of the Necrons army I'm building... THE TINY ARMS! UGH!)

One StormRaven, while for mobility is nice, is going to be Krak Missile bait. I am not impressed with them from the opposing force side. I play Space Wolves and have routinely and successfully grounded those birds many times.

A Dreadknight might be better?

Also, be aware of a trick that's new to me from Necrons (late to the party, sorry guys), but it's called "Death & Despair". Basically, with the right combination, you can get your fat squad hit with twin linked, AP1, wounds on a 2+ template... possibly 4 times! I could see that wrecking this list hardily.
