Blood Angels or Necrons: Help me decide.....

I understand that it is all user preference but as I am new to all of this Army building, I am curious what more experienced players think. I started by just watching others play at my local gaming store and then got into the fantasy side by building me a Chaos warrior army. I have since found that in my area 40k is a lot more popular so I am kinda shifting gears and going that direction. I have started with the necrons but unfortunately they are hard to come by due to the reconfiguring of the Codex and all. I really like the necrons but am curious about the Blood Angels as well. I am not as big of a fan of space marines which I think in part is cause everyone here plays some from of the grey knights, ultra marines, and space wolves. I have also started reading a lot more of the books which is also a reason why I have begun to look at the Blood Angels as I really like the lore behind them(I am big on lore and story which comes I guess from my D&D days). Please I am looking for any input on this as to whether or not I should build a BA army or just stick with the Necrons and how do they typically stand up in table combat. Army builds also would be helpful.

Necrons are up next for an update and their current book is kinda rubbish. I'd suggest you wait a month with your Necron ambitions.

Stick with necrons. Just wait a month or 2, necrons are the next book so they will probably be absurdly overpowered. And because you liked them before they were cool, you wont be labled as a bandwagoner too much.

I would say Necrons.

Not many Choices to worry about, a fairly forgiving army, and easy to paint.

Of course, you could just buy the necron models and the BA codex and do a "counts as"... No one should have a problem with that as they are apparently fist bumping buddies.. Just paint them Red and have a banner that says "We <heart> Matt".. just kidding.

I'd say go with necrons now with the understanding that your rear end will be seriously kicked until the new codex comes out. Call it a growth experience or something.

Then again, SoB had a wonderful experience with their new WD codex... So I guess you have to ask yourself, "Do you feel lucky?"

Any way, the Necrons are due an update soon (as said above), but BA are pretty kick-a$$ still, so its up to you on which one you like the look of/ fluff for/ playstyle etc...

Reference the picture above and field Warriors as TSM and Immortals as Sternies in you Dante BA list.

If you can learn to win with necrons in their current incarnation you'll find you will learn tactics easier as at the moment the necrons get pounded more often than not. Only with excellent tactics will you do well with them. But don't let that discourage you! which one do you like more lore/look wise? go for that one.
As for builds take a look at the army list forum for more help. I play against necrons, not as them

But good luck and have fun! More necrons to fight is always a good thing. Too many space marines around. And that's coming from someone who plays them

In all honesty though and all crap fluff aside, for as much as i dislike Blood Angels and their codex, and im probably just a little butthurt coz they didnt put that much effort into the DA codex, A Bloodcron list would be pretty cool to run.

...they haven't put out a DA codex since they started the new and more expansive codexes...if anything you should be HAPPY a DA codex isnt out yet as it will probably come right at the beginning of 6e.

Thanks for all the help, but I am a bit confused....BA/Nec alliance??? How would one do that? If I could run something like that it would be bad a$$. I do like the look and lore of the BA but I do like the Necrons and their look and the lore there is nice as well.

We're just messing around. There's a part in the BA Codex where the Blood Angels and Necrons form a temporary alliance to fight off some 'Nids. Once the battle's over they just leave eachother and nothing else happens. This is generally considered one of the worst pieces of fluff ever written...

Run the warriors as TSM and make necrony heavy and special weapons and Use immortals as Sternies. Everything else Red and Mean.

LOL, nice ok I get it.... Thank you all for your assistance I will stick with my Necs and continue to build.... and I may still build a BA army just for the fun of painting them since I enjoy that almost more than playing the game!!!!

Just think of the BA/necron bro-mance as they started fighting a more serious threat, and both were too beat up after the battle to fight each other, makes it a lot better, than the they fought side by side and at the end bro fisted over the victory and had a beer.

That particular piece of fluff is such an epic fail because it's like a current DA and a Fallen teaming up to fight nids and then Brofisting. No, one of them puts a bolter round in the other ones eye and calls a taxi.

Hehe, that's pretty much how I started out.

I'm actually working on a 'combat squad' of Warriors, using a new paint scheme I'm trying out. But I've mostly switched over to BA's now. Maybe with the new 'dex I'll get back into Necrons, but who knows.

I beg to differ. I think the shade of red is a big factor in the difficulty. The shade I'm doing for my Death Company isn't hard at all.

With respect Khiros thats not exactly red. Sure it has red in it, but when most people say red is hard to paint they mean primary red. Just like when folks say yellow is hard to paint you don't really hold up an ochre as an example.
As a side note, I happen to like deep sinister reds like that, excellent choice.
