A unit is assaulting through Difficult, Dangerous Terrain (hot lava, murderous hurricane, my son's bedroom...);

the Difficult Terrain roll is too low to allow the closest model to reach base-to-base;

the assault fails, and no models are moved;

Do any models take Dangerous Terrain tests?

Thank you!

I think you answered your own question.

To roll for dangerous terrain, you have to move through or within dangerous terrain.

If your assault fails you do not move.

As DeathReaper said if the assault fails you do not move.

Only models that actually enter, leave or move through dangerous terrain must take dangerous terrain tests.

Doesn't it say on BRB 34 that you take the dangerous terrain tests for assaulting through dangerous terrain before moving?

but only if you would move the models. If you can't move the models then you don't have to take the test

It's on page 36, and it says if assaulting through difficult or dangerous terrain as part of the assault move, any model in the unit must take the relevant terrain test before moving.

If you don't roll high enough to enter the dangerous terrain, you don't have to test. Same as for a normal move into difficult and dangerous terrain.

basically if you fail to make the required distance to get into assault then you never move so the roll doesn't have to happen

How does this work when because the closest model died due to dangerous terrain the assault fails?

You start the process from the now closest model, and if he is able to reach B2B you roll his DT test and if he dies you start the process from the now closest model and so on till you get into B2B or enough guys die that you fail the assault, at that point the assault fails and no one else is moved.

Yep, I had a unit of 5 bikes fail their assault with 3 dying in the attempt thanks to my stupendous dice rolling!
