I've played a traditional kan wall army in the past with some success. I think that the army is good enough to play in a tourney, but a real pain to play in a timed game. Normally you see a mix of rokkits and grotzookas on the kanz. I was wondering if anybody has had any experience with running just skorchas on the kanz. My thought is to just run the kanz and the mobs behind them for a couple of turns and then get into assault. The only real shooting I'd put into the army would be from loota mobs. My list at 2k would probably look something like this:

KFF Mek x2
14 Lootas x3
30 boyz w/pk,bp nob
29 boyz w/pk,bp nob x2
deff dread w/extra cc arm, skorcha x2
3 kanz w/skorcha x3

1998 points

There are a lot of lootas there, and they should be able to put some hurt on the average AV11-AV12 vehicles I see in most games. Usually I'm lucky for rokkits to do much in a game, but have had some success with grotzookas when facing unmeched infantry.

Anybody else run their kan wall like this? For those of you who haven't what do you think about a non-shooty kan wall?

Skorchas don't really provide anthing that grotzookas don't and are less versatile. In addition, orks don't need flamers that bad, as we already have very effective units against medium and light infantry, most notably boyz.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I tried the skorchas on a group of my Kans once and then decided that they were a waste. The problem that I had with them is that they never got to use against anything that would be worth using them on. I think that the grotzooka is better then the skorcha any day of the week. The added range of the grotzooka with the better BS makes it worth using imo. I also perfer to run KMB's over the rokkits as most of the people I play against are marine players and that AP2 always seems to come in handy at the right moment.

I do run a skorcha and 3 DCCW's on my two Deff Dreads though. I think that having armor plates and grot rigggers on these guys is also a must too.

Hope this helps

I would break the lootas units into smaller units, I have run them in mass before, and they will destroy a transport a turn in that number, however you can only engage 1-2 targets a turn with there set up.

Also skorchas, waste the best BS in the ork codex,

I would drop the lootas into 3 units of 5 and with the other points, drop the deff dread add more boys, and some deffkoptas with buzzsaws.

This isnt really a shooty kan wall at all it is a generic build but it does have advantages over your current list in the form of more anti tank which orks struggle with.

FYI, he has 3 x14 loota mobs. The only reason to break thier numbers up, would be to add more bodies to the build. Not to mention everyone ALWAYS says drop X unit, and take deffkoptas w/buzzsaws. *yawn* The only thing Id criticize is drop the skorchas on the kans and put something worth shooting. Rokkits at least man

The whole point behind taking the skorchas was to run the kanz and dread every turn until they can make contact with the enemy. If I was to run instead of shoot, save for the turn before assaulting, then the skorcha might be a better choice, since I'll be shooting it close enough that it might scatter back on top of me.

I understand that grotzooks and rokkits are generally the way to go, but I wanted to hear from anyone who might have played a kan wall that ran in the shooting phase rather than shot.

My thinking with the larger loota mobs is that I want to make sure to be able to take out a piece of armor each turn with each squad. I have played smaller loota mobs in the past, usually 5-7 per mob, and they are just not reliable enough to get the job done, especially since they will be my sole source of anti-tank shooting in this list.

5 lootas=5-15 shots, hitting 1.6-5, and penning AV12 .26-.83 times.
14 lootas=14-42 shots, hitting 4.6-14, and penning AV12 .76-2.3 times, netting me a much more desirable result, especially when considering the extra glances produced.

Id drop the skorchas as well. And even a squad of lootas for a unit of commands with the character. Having a horde run at you from the front and a unit come on in from behind is a lot to deal with. And works wonders against gun lines that want to sit as close to the board edge as possible.

I use skorchakanz in some games, but usually against eldar. I like having something with an AV value that can toast past those annoying turboboost and warlock-conceal saves.

Also good for shucking 2+ cover save Pathfinders/Marine scout snipers/ Tau sniper teams out of buildings/runis etc..

For general use i prefer grotzookas and rokkits.

I always give my Deffdredds skorchas or CCW. The other options generally suck with my rolling..
