So a game I played at the NOVA, my opponent has two grand masters. he has 2 out flanking units which he used grand strategy to outflank.

His turn 2 starts and he rolls for reserves... 2 and 2.... both failed.

Now since technically you have to roll reserves one at a time... and technically you have to roll psychic powers at the same time... can he AFTER failing his check now modify the rolls?

The judge we got ruled in his favor and Honestly at that point I was tired of rules debates....

Rolling reserves and using Psychic Communion both trigger "at the start of your movement phase". So I guess they can be resolved in either order.

But nothing allows Psychic Communion to rewind time and change the result of a previously resolved reserve roll.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

It looks like the GK player can roll for all of his Reserves, and then decide to do Psychic Communion. So if he rolls a 2 on the resereve, he then has to pass two Psyhic tests (adding +1), to get one Reserved unit on the teble.

Very interesting. I had assumed you had to use the power before rolling, but after reading it more closely, it appears that you can wait.

So, it looks like your opponent was correct.

Except once you move onto the next dice roll, the result of the previous roll is fixed - same with Autarchs and their modifier.

So no, you have to choose to alter before you start. Better tae those psychic checks first...

That's my gut feeling, but do we have a rule that specifies that?

Psychic Communion says "you can modify any reserve rolls made this phase..." That seems to imply that it would effect rolls made any time earlier or later.

I agree, the text for psychic communion says "choose after each die roll has been made" not something like "after all reserve rolls have been made". Once you go on to something else, like taking a psychic test, you've lost the opportunity to modify the roll.

Shrouding also doesn't have a specific time to be cast, just "during the opponent's shooting phase". Would you allow them to take a bunch of cover saves, fail a bunch of them on 3's, then cast shrouding to retroactively give them stealth and keep them alive?

Same here, and the reason shrouding can activate at any time is that you might decide later on you want it, kind of like choosing to go to ground after the 2nd or third volley hits a unit, you don't get to go back and undo the damage done, as they weren't to ground on the previous rolls.

In this case you would have to psychic communion prior to the roll, you roll the dice, apply any modifiers, then the results resolves, and you move on. If at the time of rolling for reserves you have no modifiers to apply, done's done.

This is done this way to not provide players an unfair advantage (imo) of being able to only take the test when they need it, and avoid perils risks
