I'm thinking of writing a 40k/AvP crossover.
So far, I've come up with two ideas...

1) Predator vs. Catachans
A Mechanicus exploratory team "disappears" while investigating ancient ruins on a jungle planet. The Catachans are tasked with finding out what happened. I could also throw xenomorphs into the mix.
2) Predator vs. Space Marines
A Deathwatch squad is sent to investigate a mysterious signal of xenos origin. The signal also draws a predator hunting party led by an elder.
The signal originates from a derelict spacecraft infested with hibernating xenomorphs.

I am interested in your suggestions, opinions, ideas!
I've written some AvP fanfic in the past (http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4738210/1/Aliens_vs_Predator_Sins_of_the_Father
http://www.fanfiction.net/s/4743241/1/Appendix_to_AvP_Sins_of_the_Father), but I ran into serious writer's block.

I'm thinking of combining idea 1) and idea 2).
Here's what I've come up with so far:
Yes, there it is again. Enkidu studied the main console. A delicious sense of anticipation, an emotion he rarely felt anymore, crawled up the remnants of his spine. In the darkness of his hood, Enkidu's occular implant glowed like a blood-red gem. Mechadendrites slithered as if stirring from slumber. Excellent. The signal was weak, but armed with a powerful detection array, the explorator vessel had picked it up easily. Its structure did not match any known transmissions, Imperial or otherwise. This excited Enkidu for he was a servant of the Martian Priesthood and the Blessed Omnissiah. Indeed, despite all his technical knowledge, Enkidu, draped in his dark brown robes, resembled more a monk than a scientist.
According to the transmechanics, it was a distress beacon, perhaps of unclassified xenos origin. To one who appreciated such things, the signal's construction was beautiful in its mathematical elegance. Enkidu found himself admiring the cleverness of the creators.
The signal had been tracked to an uncharted area of the Veiled Region. The exact source was a verdant world orbiting a yellow star, not unlike that which illuminated Holy Terra and Mars. Enkidu glanced over at the chief transmechanic who was busy peering at a nearby monitor.
“Chief mechanic, tell me of this planet,” Enkidu rasped.
The sound of the Magos' voice roused Marcion from the trance-like state he often experienced during data analysis.

yeah, I wanted to do that but it resembles the first Predator movie too much

if I do Deathwatch, there will be a lot of aliens, and the predators will outnumber the marines and/or be equipped for war, not hunting

I will love you forever if you do Predator vs Catachan.
I feel that the Predator vs Deathwatch would be a little one-sided.

I'd support Predator vs Catachans too, though both concepts could be good. And since its 40k, it could be easily justified! Afterall, its a big universe.

True, the Deathwatch are the Imperium's elite anti-xenos task force, but I think that if
1) there are a lot of xenomorphs distracting the marines
2) the predators have surprise and numbers on their side and
3) the predators are elite and have their best gear
it wouldn't be so one-sided

Basic outline so far:
1) Mechanicus explorator team goes missing on an unexplored planet.
2) A radical Ordo Xenos inquisitor and his retinue (mainly ex-Catachan) investigate and run into a large subterranean hive of xenomorphs.
3) The inquisitor seeks assistance from the Deathwatch. Only three marines are available for deployment.
4) Predators arrive and observe as the Deathwatch and the remnants of the inquisitorial group stubbornly battle the xenomorph hive.
5) Predators try to take advantage of the situation.

Why is the inquisition involved?
Before being destroyed, the Mechanicus team sends the message of its plight to Forgeworld Croesus (the nearest Mechanicus stronghold). The Mechanicus contacts the radical Ordo Xenos inquisitor and requests his assistance. The inquisitor decides to investigate. After arriving on the planet, he discovers the threat posed by the xenomorph species. More importantly, he realizes that the planet is in the path of a Tyranid splinter fleet. Unable to call down exterminatus in time, the inquisitor attempts to destroy as many xenomorphs as he can before Tyranids arrive to assimilate the planet's biomatter.
