Around

So i've been thinking about this lately, and i can't seem to come up with a conclusion, so i've come to the internet for everyones opions

So i'll break each of them down:

The Predator i'm going to take is a basic dakkapred so it will be armed with an autocannon and heavy bolter sponsons. A dakkapred will lay down 2 S7 attacks and 6 Str 5 attacks a turn. It has an armor value of 13 on the front, and it costs about 95 points. And can shoot at 1 target a turn. i'll also be taking a hunter killer missile on each to make the points even

Long Fangs I will be taking, are 6 long fangs with 5 missile launchers, which can lay down 5 str 8 attacks a turn, long fangs have an armor save of 3+ and costs 140 points per squad, as long as the squad leader is alive the long fangs can shoot at 2 different targets.

The benefits of taking long fangs is that they can take shoot at str 8, and can do some potential damage to armor 14, but 2 squads are 280 points, while i can 3 predators for 285 points. Even though 2 squads of long fangs can lay down 10 str 8 shots, 3 predators can lay down 6 str 7 shots and 18 str 5 shots, making them quite versatile. Long Fangs can also shoot at 4 targets combined if the squad leaders are alive, but the predators can shoot at 3.

what does everyone think??

The LFs are inarguably better, they are not only much harder to kill, but the blast templates are better vs. foot troops, and the, missile launchers are better vs. tanks, and they split fire. I find Predators are a unit that doesn't know what to do with itself, does it want to shoot at big tanks? Transports? Infantry? I'm still deciding.

The eye of terror.

I would be hesitant to call Long Fangs "much harder to kill," as things like venoms or the aforementioned dakka pred can do major damage to long fangs, and none or almost none to the predator.

However, the long fangs can split fire, and are more useful against a wider variety of targets. For SW there really is no alternative.

Why did the berzerker cross the road?

Its just that long fangs are so good, that any army would be glad to find a spot for them in their HS slot. Long fangs all the way.

Long Fangs are the superior choice. Dakka Preds have too less killing potential.

On moon miranda.

There's a reason you almost never see Predators in SW armies, and almost never fewer than two units of long fangs (usually 3) in the overwhelmingly vast majority of SW armies. There's little else in the game that can pack in the same firepower for those points, much less have the ability to split fire.

Long Fangs are just that silly.

IRON WITHIN, IRON WITHOUT.

The correct pronunciation is Imperial Guard and Stormtroopers, "Astra Militarum" and "Tempestus Scions" are something you'll find at Hogwarts.

Predators are good, but long fangs are better, and fill a needed role in the space wolf army (sort of hard to get heavy weapons)

Plus most of the time you take a las/plas or even just a heavy bolter razorback with the long fangs, giving you an almost predator AND access to missile launchers, which is a good thing.

Honestly i'd start almost all SW armies with 3 units of 4 missiles, and think about adding a 5th to each squad if you have the points. I'd also almost always give them a razorback of some kind for the added firepower/number of vehicles.

Almost no reason not to take the fangs...
