Played a 16,000 point a side game today. I tried a unit of 20 Noise Marines with sonic blasters, and they killed everything they shot at.

Man that was fun.

It's a 500 point unit, it better kill most things it shoots at.

Seriously, though, could anybody see using this in, say, a 2500 point game? I remember with the old codex somebody talking about seeing an 18 man unit of noise marines with infiltrate rock peoples' faces off at a tournament.

"Well, isn't the enemy of your enemy, like, your friend? Or whatever? Can't they team up?"
"Not exactly. In this setting, the enemy of your enemy is still a floating, greasy, armored brain."
"Well, what about his enemy? Maybe you could be friends with him."
"No, because that guy is a mechanical horror in an undying battle shell. He sails from world to world in a flying tomb, serving gods who eat hope."

I could see them having problems if everything is meched up. Who do they shoot at for the first couple turns? Then all the enemy needs to do is bog them down. A dedicated CC unit will still eat them alive, and they will still take awhile to kill anything that jumps into them. 500 point unit wastes 2 turns waiting to shoot, then three more turns trying to kill a 10 man BA assault squad with FNP.

The size of game he played had the other players opening up the meat cans. He probably had plenty to shoot at considering infiltrators, deep strikers, scout moves and fast transports. Also remember he was playing a huge gimmick game. This unit would not be efficient in a normal sized game.

500 points to kill 8 marines a turn, assuming they start in your zone of terror.

Awesome? Not really.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."

This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life.
