I get the feeling the general consensus is that monoliths should be avoided, and that phase out should be attempted instead, however that isn't always an option, so I am wondering:

Assuming the worst case scenario(such as monolith phalanx, etc), what is the best way to take down a 'lith for the various races?

For space marines I'd suggest vindicators or standard land raiders. Both high strength weapons making penetrating hits easier!

Would like to see what options the other races have, so fire away!

Charge it with a Dreadknight wielding a DH! Strength 10 and 2d6 for pen! (I think you get 2d6 on monolith with dem big creatures, just not with ordanance and melta)
Also, blasting it with Psycannons work, I know it's just praying for 6's, but taking out a monolith is worth the risk!

Tau have railguns

Daemons could use Bolt of Tzeentch

Necrons could use OTHER Monoliths

Hammerhand from Grey Knights could work.

Ajar Rockfist (the dude with the s10 AP1 throwing hammer) could hit it with his hammer (Space Wolves)

Really unreliable, but EMP grenades (and the Eldar Variant) can pen on a 6.

Anyone with rending and alot of attacks could work.

IIRC, Eldar have a squad that is supposed to negate Living Metal.

Space Marines could use orbital Bombardment

Guard could use Marbo

Daemons could use Breath of chaos to glance it to death.

Tried to pick thing no one had said yet

BA blood lance can only glance a monolith. since the monolith is immune to the lance effect. but BA can do lascannon spam pretty well. they also have access to S9 fists/hammers and the psychic power that boosts a libby to S10

eldar are able to pop them fairly easy with warlocks and wraithguard. S9 hits from the warlocks and the wraithcannons pen monoliths on a 5+

You dont get more than 1D6 against monos, Ordinance works because it's not extra dice, you just choose the highest of the two.
S10 is plenty though.

S10 AP1 (preferably ordinance) weapons are the best... there's dozens of threads about the same topic.

For marines, you can try Lascannon Spam, but Vindicators are your best bet.

Orks - use pks. A warboss will throw out 5 str10 attacks alone. And if he and his nobs were in a battlewagon you can deffrolla it as well

Yeah this topic comes up every couple of weeks the answer is anything str9-10 works best, especially if you get to roll extra dice/reroll dice (MC's in CC, ordnance etc)

Wait a few months for living metal to go away, and then use meltaguns :-P

In the meantime, yeah, avoid or S9-10 them to death...not many other choices, really.

Can't really glance it to death seeing as weapon destroyed results only reduce its shots by one. What does Marbo have that could take it down?

AP1 is a huge help. With an AP1 weapon, you can destroy it on a glance.
STR 10 is a huge help. A LC penetrates it 1/6 of the time. A vindicator does so 1/3 of the time. That's twice the chances of killing the 'lith

Either way, your chances are piss poor. That's why people tell you go to for the phase out. The amount of shots you need to pump into one 'lith to destory it will generally cause a phase out of the entire army.

I've found Vindicators, Dreadnaughts and my s10 TH's take it out the easiest. As said previously, anything STR10, or 9 if you have to.

Eldar can also ram with a grav tank (no dodge roll for the monolith since they're both skimmers). As long as you get at least a 21" run, that's a str10 autohit.

If the ramming tank has a holofield, it will probably just be shaken by the hit it takes.

One, I got the joke from Alien
Two, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA KILL? MONOLITH? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Three, its not that hard, and i find Vindis to be the best. Also if your really having trouble, remind your opponent of the FAQ and then use your sternguards to rapid fire his C'tan to death. That'll get him pissed enough to make mistakes.

Ya, I play Crons, what about it?
Also, they are just shiny space zombies with guns.
