"How's your faith now, Templar?"
"Why don't you come a little closer... and I'll show you?"
(Thomas Marshall, Templar Knight, Redeemed)

Inspired by Ridley Scott's awesome Crusade movie "Kingdom of Heaven", Grimladus and his Templars from the Aaron Dembski-Bowden exceptional novel "Helsreach", and most recently by the warrior Templar Thomas Marshall from the fantastically brutal film "Ironclad", here begins anew my true scale Marines blog:

Some notes of no interest:
(1):
I make no claim to originality in the true scaling, the methods seen hence forth are copied from and and inspired by the following:
- Migsula's three forms of Alpharius and his =I=munda BLOGs, specifically his modelling but his painting is also truly awesome!
- Synapse's amazing true-scale pre-Heresy World Eaters, and
- Apologist's just as equally wow pre-Heresy Ultramarine Praetors of Calth

(2):
- Seriously, who actually knew that Middle Age sappers set fire to pigs in tunnels to bring down castle walls???
- (Watch Ironclad!)

And so, the true-scale sculpting/kit-bashing story so far (this work was done approx 1 year ago):
Group shot:

T1 and T2:

T1 close up:

T1 - back armour complete - moving onto arms and weapons next!

T2 close up:
- he had foot surgery to realign the front boot

T2 - GS on torso - quicker job than T1, thanks to clay shapers and practice!

Some leg surgery:

And some new torso work - the Assault Marine chest/back construct on the right is my 'old' method, which requires a lot of GS sculpting to get a smooth, even curvature.
The 'new' method utilises Terminator chest fronts to try and keep chest details like the Aquila, and (hopefully) requires less GS sculpting.

Very cool start, since it sounds like you're making your own chapter what sort of visuals and colors do you plan to use? Will this be a full feildable army or just a P&M project?

Look forward to seeing more!

They look great so far, my only complaint is the torso looks a little bit skinny for the body, though that's probably out of personal choice; that's how I do mine!

My Inq28 blog, check it out!

Tabards or wargear could mitigate that a bit.

FearPeteySodes - Thanks!
"... since it sounds like you're making your own chapter what sort of visuals and colors do you plan to use?
~ Chapter-wise probably Black Templars - possibly 'lost' Crusaders returning to the main Chapter (after many years) - or they might be a 3rd Founding Chapter, maybe the Iron Templars or something like that...
~ Visually I'm leaning toward Knights rather than Marines - post-Heresy era, with chainmail and big swords, but with bolters of course!
~ Color-wise they will probably be Black Templars - I will attempt to blend a deep blue to black using zenithal effects... and authentic battle damage!
"Will this be a full field-able army or just a P&M project?"

~ Currently I'm planning on building 4 Knights, an Emperor's Champion and a Chaplain, and a complicated diorama base - I think building a playable army would send me off to Arkham Asylum!!!

Farty Wiffmas - Thanks!

~ Tabards, chainmail hauberks, wargear, embossed emblems... They'll end up chunky enough Farty!!! (Thanks for the crits tho)

Emperors_Champion - Thanks! - And enjoy!

Torso WIP continues:

And a new set of legs for the Chaplain:

Good sir,

How do you get such neat cuts in your legs? I wish I could do that.

Also, please work very hard on this project so I can see the outcome by........ tonight.

FearPeteySodes - Thanks! - I just hope I can sculpt the GS well enough to compliment the build!

Campbell1004 - Thanks! - I use a hobby saw - very carefully! (If people are interested I can do a quick pic tutorial on how I do the legs?)
As for finishing these guys tonight, well... I started them a year ago, so that might indicate to you how slowly my projects can go...

YES. I am extremely interested in such processes. Also, things are looking great, some really creative work here (especially with the shins). Subscribed for great justice.

- TheMumm - Thanks!
- I will try and take WIP pics of the next set of legs - however, my methods aren't original, have a look at Migsula's Legion blog, and Apologist's Praetors of Calth - both blogs are inspiring examples of true-scaling at work, and from which I have blatantly 'borrowed' techniques
M0rdain wrote:Just don't kill thier horses.
- M0rdain - No horses were killed (so far) in the making of these Templars...

Meanwhile, the fourth 'standard' torso is complete, and the Chaplain's Aquilla torso has been widened - a stupidly complicated process which unfortunately resulted in the destruction of the Champion's torso, so the 'modified' Assault Marine torso is the Champion's new torso, incorporating my old method but attempting to maintain the curve over the abdomen:

And the diced up Knight's legs have been repositioned, so I now have 5 completed sets of biggerised legs:
