Hi All,

Thinking about starting a bike/speeder army. I have built a few lists, but noone in my local group runs bikes, so I have no idea what a semi-competitive list looks like. Maybe this post should be in Tactics, since I am not putting a list up, but I am hoping for suggestions on what you would run if you started from scratch and built/purchased exactly what you wanted. For those of you who have run bike armies, should I run Ravenwing, Khan, vanilla or possibly Vulkan? Command squad? Full squads, combat squads? Loadouts? Speeder Squadrons? Except for Grey Knights(I had over 4,000 pts before the new codex), I have never played SM's. I am looking at building an 1850 list and would appreciate any input on either the list or tactics.

Thanks in advance.

Grey Knights 4500 Points
Sister's of Battle 4000 Points
Monty Vect's Flying Circus 5000 Points
Chaos Space Marines 5000 Points

I put this list together a while ago. I haven't actually tested it at all since I haven't put the models together yet and some are still missing anyway...

Might be a crap list for all I know :p

Firstly have you considered blood angels bikes with jump packs.

In general you need the right terrain, I guess this is always the case with all armies. The little I have played I would say they are weak and you have to be really tactically astute or you'll die, I guess this is always the case with all armies. What I mean is your speed and movement is your one advantage if you get caught you will die horribly.

Some pointers
Stick away from cc, apart from Khan's command squad. Your main advantage disappears once you get into combat.
Use fast light support, this is an issue with taking Vulkan. Again if the enemy has one unit to shoot at they are happy. If their heavy weapons have something heavy to shoot at especially so.
Stick together. Just punish a small part of their army and hide from the rest.

These remain true for all bike armies with the notable exception of the bike and dread spin off. You can build a fast/slow list where you get into a shooting match and then use bikes to claim objectives and direct your enemy towards the killing fields.
