Hey everyone!

A quick disclaimer before you look at my list: I'm a complete newbie. I've only played two games and I'm still picking up the rules. Right now, I'm playing 500 points to get a grasp of how this whole thing works. I've decided to play BA, and put together two lists that I'd love feedback on. I'm not here to win the world championship, but hopefully learn what I got right and what I got wrong.

My two lists are, as mentioned, 500 points and their focus is on assault:

List 1:
3x Assault squads with melta bombs and combat shields
1x Reclusiarch with a jump pack and infernus pistol

List 2:
3x Assault squads with melta bombs
2x Sanguinary priests with jump packs, hand flamers and melta bombs

Feedback welcome

List 2 is illegal, as you don't have a HQ.

Because points are so scarce at 500, you pretty much have to take a Librarian as your HQ. Anything else is either too expensive (Reclusiarch, special characters) or completely ineffective (Captain). The one exception would be taking Mephiston, which would do really well but isn't the friendliest choice. I'd totally do it if I was in a 500 point tournament, but that's it.

The good news is that list 1 can be a lot better if you make a few swaps. First, the Reclusiarch needs to be a Librarian, as above. Second, those Assault Squads need different wargear. You always want special weapons in Assault Squads, and giving the Sergeant a CC weapon is a must as well if they aren't in a transport. So, I'd give each squad a Meltagun and a Power Weapon or Lightning Claw.

You will need to acquire Meltaguns to pull this off, but you can get them from many places online. Do it now, because you will certainly want them when your army grows.

You should also plan to magnetize all your models if you haven't done so already. It's really easy, and it allows you to get the most out of your money. PM me if you have questions about it.

500 points is too little to play the normal rules and for armies to play to their usual rhythm. Most 500 pt battles cut up the FoC and use different rules.

Like a fair comment here is 500 pts do not contain tanks so the meltabombs will be useless. But that hides the real answer that in 40k yes there are lots of tanks but meltabombs tend not to be the way to kill them.

Come up with a 1000 point army. If you have a HQ and 2 troops then include your favourite models then you will not go far wrong with blood angels.

I like the first list better. But I would drop the melta bombs and the switch the Champlain for a Librarian.

Great feedback guys!

I added the meltabombs because I've been playing against IG and Tau, with their vehicles giving me a lot of trouble.

Playing around with the librarian and wargear right now.

MrEconomics, do you have a good guide to magnetizing? First I've heard of it.

How about this then?

3x assault squads with melta bombs and either a plasma gun or infernus pistol.
1x librarian with a jump pack and a plasma gun or infernus pistol.

I can put a CC weapong on the assault squads, but it means giving up all their equipment and the weapon on the lib.
