Subject: Thinning paint confusion!

Heya folks!!
I'm currently starting to thin my paints in order to try the layering technique on my Daemon Prince and Bezerkers and am looking for the best products to thin my paints, I hear alot about future floor polish or something like that but unfortunately I can't find it anywhere in the UK, other products I can get hold of which I have heard about is Liquitex mediums aswel as Vallejo mediums, the paints I use mostly are VGC, VMC and will rarely use Citadel. If anyone could give me the most popular mixture and it's ratios it would be super!!

Future is used more for creating washes and glazes in my experience, not so much for thinning for blending and layering. It's also crazy glossy. I use distilled water mixed with liquitex flo-aid , about 10/1 ratio. I'll usually mix a drop of paint to a drop of thinning mix. Other companies make flow improvers such as craft paint makers which I have found are of good quality as well. Adding a little paint retarder like slo-dry will make it take longer to dry so you can do wet blending better.
I.m also playing with using airbrush thinner/ medium as a thinner for brush work as it's suppose to maintain opacity while thinning the consistency.
Hope this helps

Thank you so much!! Very helpful. I have alot of airbrush thinner and so on already as I'm more handy with an airbrush at the moment rather than a paint brush, I'll get hold of some flo-aid and experiment with the both! Thanks for the reply Heavy!

Sometimes I'll mix in a bit of various mediums for a particular effect, but probably 80% of my paint thinning is done with plain old tap water.

Future is now Pledge Floor Care in the US. If you look at Swannys models future page on the top right it flashes through what may be on the shelves.
The only time I use future to thin is Gesso. I also use water with Liquitex flow aid for thinning brush paints. I actually have the most fethed up mix of flow aid, retarder, and matte medium that I drop into my paints.

I have found a cheaper alternative to flow aid, and it is liquid soap, and what is does it makes the paint lose its surface tension.
I mix it in a dropper bottle with water, ratio is 25% soap, 75% water.
