Hey everyone. I've said it before, but when I first started 40k, I planned on playing Marines. So I have a handful of Tacticals and the 'Nilla Marines Codex laying about with no real plan. I've recently fallen in love with the Iron Warriors after reading both the Black Library novels and some fan fiction here on Dakka. As we all know, the CSM codex is showing its age. So I was thinking about using C:SM to represent post-heresy IW. Everything could easily be modeled WYSIWYG, the codex isn't overly powerful, and I feel like I can more accurately represent the IW on the tabletop this way. My regular opponent has already said he has no problem with this, but I wanted to judge people's reactions before I get too heavily invested in the idea. What do you guys think? Thanks for any and all replies.

I wouldn't mind at all. If anything, it would be more fitting for them.

Well, considering IW are supposed to have techmarines/warsmiths and more advanced tanks, it would probably fit well. I think I'll consider it, too.

Sounds good to me, Master of the forge as an HQ, using tons of dreads and all that goodness.

Blood Angels might work better, since they can field more heavy armor and dreadnoughts than anyone.

The Death Company would make for a nice way to represent the small Khorne contingent of the Iron Warriors.

I agree with Omegus, BA would likely be a better choice for IW. But I personally wouldn't care _what_ codex you used really. As long as you weren't trying to break the rules due to your view on the fluff, and even then, if it's cool I'll likely let it slide

Edmondblack: There's something about some str10, AP2 blast weaponry which says "i love you" in that very special way.

I think that non-god affiliated Chaos armies like Iron Warriors can do fine with the vanilla codex. Master of the Forge is an option almost tailor made for them! Personally, I like to use the Chaos codex for them since while they don't worship any Chaos gods, they're still godless heretics with poor morale and lots of unshakable vindicators

Thanks for the opinions, guys. I assumed that nobody would be bothered by it, but I still wanted to gauge some opinions. I was thinking MotF for sure, and maybe a kitted out Captain for HQ slots, a Dread or two in Elites, a couple Vindis and maybe a Dev squad in Heavy, plus the obvious Tac squads. Should make for some fun conversion and painting work.
