Hi all, I would like some advice on this list and how to spend the last 60 points.

Vet Sqd, 3 x Melta, Chimera, HF - 155
Vet Sqd, 3 x Plasma, Chimera, HF - 170

Leman Russ - 150

940pts

I was considering perhaps using Multi-melta sponsons or perhaps one of the other variant leman russ'. Any ideas/input welcomed!

Cheers WZ

Marbo and throw meltabombs in somewhere?

Upgrade the Russes to Demolisher with Hull Heavy flamers?

Find a way to lose 10 or 20 points and pick up a pair of scout sentinels?

Marbro is 65pts and would put him over. :/

I normally do not like sponsons because you can only fire one gun plus the turret weapon when you move, but with 60pts, you have few options.

You could give each Russ HB sponsons and a Heavy Stubber, but I personally hate the idea of having a LRBT that doesn't move, much less advance with my Chimeras.

You could give Heavy Stubbers to all of the vehicles for shear cheap massed shots and hope your opponent rolls 1s on cover/armor saves. Being a defensive weapon, you can fire it every turn while your moving, even on the LRBTs. It also pairs up well with the multi-laser and heavy bolter.

You still have the problem of no long range AT though...

The Multi-meltas are not bad, but you really have the same problem that you do with a hull Lascannon... if you move you can only fire 1 and that shot is at BS 3. This means the LCs are a better option and can be used at range for cheaper points.

After thinking about it, I would go OotF and two hull Lascannons for the LRBTs. This isn't a sexy pick at all, specially when I consider the LRBT to be pretty much purily anti-infantry. But you need the long range AT, and hucking a battle cannon shell with that LC shot will improve your chances to take out tough (AV 12+) vehicles at range till your meltas (if they survive) can get in range.

Note this is a really low point level for Mech Guard, as you only have 6 vehicles and little long range. You have 220pts invested in Chimeras that could be more troops. Just do not be shocked if someone with a gunline list destroys all of your vehicles in 1-2 rounds.
