I'm thinking about getting a new airbrush and I've seen the Air Pro Tools PS900 mentioned all over the place. I've read some good and some bad reviews about it and the good have outweighed the bad. But before I purchase it I was wondering if anybody here uses it and if they would recommend it because to be quite honest, the price is amazing.

And would anyone recommend any accessories I can buy with it to keep the airbrush maintained.

Edit: I'm also using a Wiltec compressor, would it have an adapter to connect to it?

Cheers

I have one that's very similar - Veda airbrush. They probably use almost the exact same parts...the only part that looks different on mine is the rear body with the cutout. I'm very happy with mine and do most of my work with it now. Only down side is you need to watch out for the rubber gaskets which they use to seal some of the parts. My Iwata and Infinity both do not use them so I guess the fit and tolerance levels are lower. Still can't beat the price. If you're just getting into the airbrush side of things it is a good starter brush.

For accessories it's best to get an airbrush stand and quick disconnect kit. The stand should be around 12 bucks on ebay and quick disconnect should be around 10 bucks. Not sure about the compressor you're using, but most hardware compressors use 1/4" fittings where as most airbrushes use 1/8" fittings. There are 1/4" to 1/8" adapters that you can get which are very cheap. It also depends on the hose you're using, I have an iwata branded hose with a 1/4" on one end and a 1/8 on the other so if the specs are not listed on the site you're buying it from, just wait till you get it, measure it and then hit the hardware store and buy the correct fittings.

Well I have several AB's ...I use my PS900 for metallics, that I won't otherwise put into my good airbrushes. It works just fine. Though I've discovered that the seals are really cheap/crap and result in odd behavior. This problem is easily resolved however with a little Beeswax from the hardware store. It's just a pain to have to keep up with after each good cleaning. Otherwise no complaints.

I mostly use my Iwata HP-CS and my Harder and Steenbech 2-in-1. I keep the H&S setup with the smaller needle and use that for more detailed work and I use the Iwata for everything else rather than change up the H&S.

All my brushes are dual-action, gravity fed btw.

Ive had a ps900 for a few years now and still like it. For the cost its a great little starter air brush with alot more capability than most airbrushers can utilize.

The o-rings arent really a problem unless you're clumsy with reassembling it and pinch a gasket. Full disassembly isnt really required unless you let some paint dry or gum up inside the brush.

Im too lazy to grab the links, but if you look at the posts Ive started theres a couple in there that have info on the PS900

After all of the good reviews here on this website on the ps900 I am thinking of getting one. I found this on ebay but am a little confused as I thought someone had said that they were no longer made

Also the problem with the seals does it really make a difference in the paint?

I got a PS900 about a year ago based on Mistress of Minis and others recommendations. I love it and use it for a variety of things. Quick disconnects are a must. Also make sure to get some airbrush cleaning brushes. They are cheap and make life WAY easier.

I disassemble mine completely after each session and it now only takes me about two to three minutes to break it apart clean it completely and reassemble it. I've thought of buying a second just to have on hand.

The sealing problem is only really an issue if you are using enamel/solvent based paints on a regular basis and cleaning your brush with paint thinner.

If you stick with the more common hobby acrylics, and reassemble your brush properly and patiently, the seals will last years. The only seal I had a problem with was because I pinched it when I was reassembling.

Sorry for necroing this topic but I am thinking of getting this airbrush. I was wondering if you can swap out needles for this airbrush to do more fine detail work.
thanks!

Jeebus dude, an anniversay thread necro!

These days unless you're getting a PS900 for 20 or 30$, I gotta suggest going with one of hte entry level badger or Iwatas. You can get them for about 70-80$ (or cheaper if you use a hobby lobby 40% off coupon or something similar).

The reason I say this now- is pasts for the PS900's are getting hard to come by. Where as the more common brands you can get parts at a local hobby shop or get them online from a variety of sources.

My ps900 served me well, but a broken trigger button assembly with no available replacement part has rendered it into a 'trainer' brush I let newbies use to learn how to swap out needles.
