i was either thinking of fielding a devastator squad(4 missiles) or a predator (auto cannon/ lascannon sponsors) which is better?
Also what's the current competitive pick when it comes to BA HS choice?
If it all depends on my list, i can give that if anyone is wondering.
Thanks

Whats in the rest of your army?
Predator isn't going to be much good if your playing DoA.
Devestators can work in mech, but predators are probably better just to get more armour on the table.

I like Devastators personally..... much, much cheaper than the Vanilla counterparts...

Why buy expensive 40k at retail price?

See the link above and get decent 40k armies for a decent price.

This is a new list for me so just going put down what i have in stone. This is a 2k list i should of stated sorry.
HQ1: Sanguinor
HQ2: Dante
Troop1: Sanguinary Guard - may change to something else
Troop2: Sanguinary Guard - may change to something else
Troop3: Scouts 5man - sniper rifles/missile/camo
FA1: Baal Pred - Assault cannon/ Heavy Bolters
FA2: Baal Pred - Assault cannon/ Heavy Bolters
I guess it is kinda DoA.

I say LasPreds or Missile Devies. You don't have much anti-tank going on there.

You have a point there, i was going to use one of the Sanguinary squads to deep strike with Dante and pop a stray tank or two.
But yeah im thinking either 3 predators or a mix. I'm more towards 3 Predators because of the 5 AV13 on the field.

If you go with the guard I would go with vindicators or predators. You want them to waste all their ap1,2 ranged weapons on the guard so you'll tanks will be free. This assumes they are frightened to assault you.
Classifying a list into DoA or Mech relies on there on being only two competitive builds which isn't really the case. You may be able to build a good list with the guard but boy are they are expensive.

Predators or Vindicators, they will go nicely with the Baals.

I completely agree with this only if you are set on running a hybrid list of Vehicles and Jump Pack Infantry since Vindicators and Predators shine in a mechanized list.

I don't see vindicators being that effective in general but that's from me playing with Chaos, i don't know how they fair in a BA list but Vindicators are just a 1 shot hit or miss where as a predator has more weapons for more chance's of scoring hits.

Preds
Being able to move 6 and fire all is impressive, allows you to hide if you dont have T1, than manouvre and shoot when you do go unlike their Vanilla counterparts
Dev's
Too static for this army, would limit your AV on the field. lack of saturation
Vindi
Not gonna lie, i hate this tank. 1 Weapon destroyed and it's an expensive ram. That combined with its lack of range is enough for me.

Are Vindicators fast for Chaos Space Marines? That's the biggest lure of the Vindicator besides the fact that it has a Strength 10 gun. Both vehicles have pros and cons, but in my opinion a Vindicator works better than a Predator because it makes your opponent concentrate on them. Most people would go after your AV13 Strength 10 Vehicles way before they even touch any part of your army. In Razorspam this is great since it removes the threat from the AV11 Razorbacks. It might not work as well in your list though. Most likely your Baal Predators would be destroyed before your Predators if you used normal Predators.
That being said though the Assault Cannon is superior to the Lascannon mathematically since the Assault Cannon is Twin Linked and has more shots. Someone did the math once. I wish I had it on hand, but the Assault Cannon was always better. Only at AV14 is it marginally better than the Lascannon. The biggest problem you'll face with Lascannon/Autocannon predators is that you can only get 1 sponson shot off per turn usually. If you can get both off at once on the same vehicle you are really lucky.

My IG envies a demolisher cannon that can move 12 and fire lol
Vindicator also provides the much needed anti-horde your list lacks. 2 Assault Cannons and 4 Heavy bolter plus some snipers, bolters and a missile will not stop most horde armies at this level.

Well, in a BA army, you want Predators instead of Devs as they can move and fire all their heavy weapons. In opposition to this, a moving Dev squad loses on round of shooting when it walks for a turn to get into better position.

Apart from when supporting DoA. You do not want give them three targets to sink all their heavy weapons into. I find typhoons work well in DoA.

Well, in fact, a DoA army is a different story. Here you want lots of jump packers which benefit from the DoA rule. Other units do not benefit from it like speeders or tanks so that I'd stay away from them.

Ok, whatever army I am meant to call jump packers with some dev. squads. Which happens to look a lot like a DoA list with some dev. squads attached.

Razorback assault squads is my opinion with a priest/corbulo or two, 3 baal preds, 1 vindicator, 2 auto/las preds.
6 AV13 hulls, and like 4 Av11 in the rbacks. for HQ a libby with shield and lance.
