Scroll down and watch the video. Ratigan looks like a deer in the headlights.
I have no idea who this toure guy is but I couldn't agree more with him. I’d be nice if just once during all the remembering and back slapping and hero warship and advertisement laden pseudo catharsis there could be a tiny little mention of the 100,000+ dead from two pointless wars.. just saying

One pointless war. Only a nattering nabob idiot would think the Afghani war was pointless. I'm sure the OP is not thinking that.

I think it's not just that, it's the fact that somehow it being a decade means the media focuses only on dredging up the events of the day, ramping the emotional exploitation up to 11 and with that level of focus there was very little discussion of what happened in between then and now. It's childish, rather than honest reflection all you have is hero warship and old wounds being re-opened. Between all the major networks I must have seen the towers fall 10 times in-between advertisements for power chairs that are covered by medicare...
It's like this guy said, had Ratigan done his show normally with only a brief mention of the anniversary of the attacks, would people be clammering for more?

What did the video have to do with the war? The word wasn't mentioned once at all...
I agree w/ Frazzled, one pointless war, but Mr. Toure had a very good point which I agree with 100%. I didn't turn my tv on at all on Sunday, until towards 11pm/midnight to catch the Raiders-Broncos game.

Well, it's kind of pointless to start a war with no plan to leave, or idea what victory would be. then not support it with the correct # of troops.
Then the most pointless thing was to start ANOTHER war when you haddn't finished the one you had. seems pointless to me. if you're not going to
do it right, why bother?

I entirely supported the attacks on the Taliban and Al Q in Afghanistan. Breaking the back of that network of evil was entirely necessary. I would have gone further and been far more brutal. A lesson should have been taught there, perhaps it could have been done effectively if not for Iraq... seriously two wars on two different enemies in two parts of the planet... at the same time... idiocy.
I vehemently opposed the second war on Iraq, it was clearly a personal score settling excuse for GWB, a revenge of his to make oil money for his little gang and it cost thousands and thousands of lives. Iraq was on the border of collapse as it was, a little balance tipping via arming the Kurds and marsh arabs of the south would have seen it resolved internally. Perhaps some assisting air strikes as we saw recently in Libya.

As soon as I saw the 9/11 crap rolling around this year I started getting POed. Talk about propaganda and marketing machine. Once a bloody year people are patriots. Oh yeah, and we've all fething forgotten December 7th where over 2000 died and we were dragged into a war that costed hundreds of thousands of lives. Speaking of thousands of Americans dying...no one cares about the Korean War (36,000 dead).
9/11 reminds me of going to Church as a child. Twice a year (Christmas and Easter) the church would be packed. Every other Sunday, half full.
