I played in a Combat Patrol tournament this weekend and did okay for a n00b (fifth out of 14) but I want to totally change my list up for next time because it constantly makes me build and paint new stuff for my overall army, and not just sit on the couch and play Space Marine on the Xbox, which is awesome by the way.

Anyway, I want to work on my Khorne Berserkers, so here's the idea I had:

Squad one:
6 Khorne Berserkers
1 Skull Champion with Power Fist and Plasma Pistol
1 Rhino

Squad two:
6 Khorne Berserkers
1 Rhino
_________
398 points

Deploy at full range, get those Rhinos into the mix ASAP and dump the Berserkers on the cover side of the Rhinos, then next turn, move the Rhinos out of the way (if they still work) and then run the Berserkers into the action. If needed, the Rhinos (if they still work) can do some tank shocking here and there, maybe even contest an objective (if that will work?) and also maybe act as cover screens.

I've usually played pretty shooty lists before, so I'd like to try some hand to hand, and also paint my berserkers, which are already built, actually.

Comments and ideas welcome.

my worry on it is what happens if you face a razorback or similarly armoured vehicle? You've got one chance to take it out and anyone in their right mind will run the razorback off from the powerfist skull champion whilst pouring hot lead/laser/acid on the skull champion's squad... Also if you roll a 1 on the plasma pistol you could lose power fist, champion AND plasma pistol all in one shot. I'd spread out the upgrades so if you get bad dice luck you're only losing the pp and a normal marine..

I've gone for a similar theme to my csm combat patrol force with 8 khorne zerkers with champion & power sword (because I don't want him going last in combat) I then took a squad of csm and threw them in the second rhino with a melta gun for those pesky vehicles/ high toughness beasties. The plan is to keep that squad in the rhino as much as possible so he can shoot at them from safety, whilst the zerkers rush into the squishies and cause mayhem.

I'm not sure it will work as well as or even half as well as just vanilla csm squads with a squad of havocs with 4 missile launchers/ autocannons as heavy support but I have that as a backup if my death or glory (tm) zerkers fail hard!

I think if your force got into combat with most armies they'd do alot of damage but I think they need a bit more oomph and you'll only get that from mixing and matching as 400 pts is too small a chunk of points to get all the bits that you'd want with chaos space marines of any kind (imo)

I plan on bringing the following to a combat patrol tournament i have coming up.

4x Wyches Venom (2x splinter cannon), Heckatrix, agoniser
3x true born, darklance, 2x shardcarbine, venom (2x splinter canon)
Ravager, 2x disintegrator, dark lance, flicker field.
396

Perhaps something to break you opponents from afar. havocs might help allot here

I agree, I've thought about spreading the upgrades out a bit and giving the plasma pistol to a figure in the smaller squad. I'd have to try to magnetize the pistol, because I usually (in normal point-size games) would never put a plasma pistol on a normal berserker. It would be an easy list swap.

I went with power fist instead of power weapon because of it's better against vehicles and it stops some of the wound allocation 'shenanigans' that can go on with the power weapon if you go first.

My concern about using Chosen or Havocs is that they're not scoring units, and the Combat Patrol tournaments that I play at tend to be pretty objective-heavy. But I do like the idea of some Havocs driving around in a Rhino and firing rockets or heavy bolters out the windows. Or five Chosen with three plasma guns in a Rhino that gets to outflank. Or five Chosen with FIVE plasma guns that get to outflank on foot. It would give the Longfangs hiding in the back something to think about. Hmm.

Thanks for the ideas.

4x Wyches Venom...

Arrgh. I have a friend who plays Dark Eldar in Combat Patrol and he kicks a hole in me, more often than not. With all of his Flicker Fields and Glitter Cannons and magical flying boats. I did take one out with a lascannon from a Havoc once. I won't lie to you: it felt good.

Man, I hope Chaos gets a new codex soon so we can get all kinds of crazy crap like that.

I'll keep thinking about long-range fire. Thanks!

Yea, a new codex that is balanced and on par with dark eldar and the other space marines would rock. My chaos are is collecting dust mostly, but slowly getting fully painted.

Perhaps some summoned deamons? cheep (relitively), invunrable, and drop safely within 6 inches. could counter charge or quick objective grab.
