I got the wood elf battalion brand new, still on sprew and the codex for 30$ lol!! i guess he guy was desperate or something, n-e-ways, i have no clue how to build it, since you can change it around a bit, now i know nothing about them,
so i don't really want to create heroes or whatever, ill probably buy them, so out of the possible units build, which would i have the most bang out of?? thanks!!

Dont think there are any options just glade gaurd(who can be scouts but do not require specific modeling to do so) the rest of the units do not really have any options other then command groups and such.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all. |

The problem with your battalion is it's full of woodelves.
Put it in the closet and wait for a new army book or some WD love like vampires got.

Friend of mine plays WE's. He doesn't use scouts very often...
Scouts differ from Glade Guard by;
- Funnily enough, having the Scout Special Rule
- Being able to Skirmish
- Losing their Glade Guard Longbows
Other than that, same stats, same options (minus the option for a standard/musician) as far as I can recall.

As far as I can remember there is no difference in the scouts and Glade Guard as far as models are concerned as Alex says.
The latter will be on a standard movement tray ie rank and file, whereas the scouts are skirmishers.
That is a real bargain so well done you, you lucky git!

Wood elves are a fun army to play, but nowadays is nearly unplayable (in a competitive sense) with the 8th edition. Give those horses some bows and you're ready to battle

You can still play wood elves some what competitively. But your gonna have to take alot of forest spirits which are actually pretty nasty in this edition. If you have no WE's in your meta you may actually do well for a time. As long as dwarves, DE's, Empire, and Lizards arent around in to big of numbers. But the basic make up for a 8th WE army is as goes. Ive seen this army list structure give alot of armies problems. A good friend of mine plays them and wins games with this style of play. Lords Level 4 wizard (use Life) Core 2-3 units of 10 man glade guards (To shoot their bows dont go running into combat) Dryads (small units of 8 to 10) Special 2-3 units of 6 Tree Kin 5 wardancers to put your level 4 in. Rare 1-2 Treemen * had to edit to say ill see if i can get him to email a list to me at 2.5k points so you have a real list to look at.

Ok this is his new list he is using. Its pretty straight forward the lord hangs out and around the glade guard and shoots off spells (almost always take lore life). The dryads/eagles either do one of two things they go up a flank to help get warmachines or they all gang up on a unit (it works with all those attacks) but dont go straight for a unit with each unit you need to get atleast 2 units of dyrads on a unit to win it. You want to break the enemy as fast as you can with dryad/eagle charges. Glade guard shoot at warmachines and other light troops. Treekin are your anvils in this list use the dyrads to protect their flank and they mow down enemies with their great (4+ armor and 5+ ward). The treeman almost never makes it to the enemy but when he does he is great at murdering with all the stuff he does. Like i said you will propably need a little time getting used to the list but it does work pretty well just avoid the magic flaming cannon balls of the dwarfs haha and good luck.

Interesting list, but I think he could use a BSB.
I also have more luck with glade guard than Dryads, but I like it. Go forest!
