Another post I read got me wondering this. What is tournament legal? I've never played in an offical tourny, just small ones held by independant retailers. Of got this idea for an inquisitorial army that uses GK replacements, I don't like GKs but with the new codex inquisitional armies are very limited unless you use GKs. Would it be legal, if I use moddied Empire greatswords as paladins? Would it be legal if I made my own version of Cortez (that isn't named Cortez)? Would it be legal if I modded rhinos and razerbacks and landraiders to be commanded by guard instead of marines? Basically the list has be replacing everything thats GK with something that isn't but still uses the rules of one.

As with most modeling questions: who the hell knows? It all depends on the opponent and TO.

Depends on the tournament, but generally:

Models are at least 75% GW if converted, if not converted, they must be GW models. Army must be WYSIWIG and follow a standard codex and accompanying FAQ.

Outside of those basics, it depends on the tournament.

Well, I'm talking about offical tournies, like gamesday and such. Another "is this legal", are forge world models legal? Can I through in some kreigsmen as warrior acolytes? Are other non-GW models or models with non-GW bits legal?

Definitely definitely not. Your other ideas are fairly reasonable, but this is a way huge stretch that I doubt anyone would play against. It makes zero sense fluff and modeling wise.

Greatswords would be good stand ins for death cult assassins.

Yeah it basically comes down to consistency and plausability. If you want to use kriegsmen as warrior acolytes, thats fine, so long as every single "acolyte" is represented by a kriesgman, and that you explain to your opponent in the beginning of the game. Same with Corteaz. As to the Greatswords, I agree with ph34r, they are a poor substitute and you can find a million other things that look closer to paladins.

That's the point though, I want nothing that looks like a GK or a Marine. I want a diverse inquisitional army list, not just cortez and a bunch of henchmen.

Look, buddy, I'm sorry, but chainmail isn't a 2+ 5++

I sure as heck wouldn't play against a buch of 25mm guys stuck on 40mm bases!

Then you'll need to find a tournament that still allows Codex Daemon Hunters or Codex Witch Hunters to be used.

GW don't mind (and therefore touraments) if you rename and remodel a special character, they even actively promote it in codexes.

As to the Greatswords, not really seeing as you would be hard pressed to say they are WYSIWYG.

Most Turniments are fine as long as you follow WYSIWYG and have info ready to explain conversions.

Sorry, got mixed up. When I think Paladin I think knights of the round table style, swords and such. When I said modded greatswords as paladins I was actually meaning to say as purifiers, the ones running around with the nemesis force swords... you know, great two-handed swords.

Id allow the great swords as purifiers. Its the inquisitors, they have access to top notch chainmail. Ill allow alot if you have the fluff to back it up tho.

I'm the master of fluff. Hell, all the officers and most of the sarges in my guard army have names and ranks and some even have a small story. I'm going to build this army up, it's going to take me a while, disposable income isn't as plentiful as it ones was.

Nope wouldnt be cool to play against this list at all.

You can make a henchmen army with the standard grey knight codex so I see no reason to let you cheap out and use WHFB great swords as GKs.

Damn I cant wait to the GW legal team codex comes out now there is a dex that will conquer all.

So you wouldnt play him because he has a unique army. As long as its wysiwyg, which means its armed with the weapons and wargear the purifiers have, its legal, and its a niffty conversion too. And it wont be cheap if he actually does it right, because he will need to put storm bolters, and any other special weapons. I like the idea, if i do a henchmen army, i might steal the idea.

The way he describes the greatswords however makes it sound like it will not be WYSIWYG.

You do know that all PA GK and terminators/paladins have swords standard, right? You should pick up the codex.

Without some halberds they will suck, I'm sad to say. Then you need storm bolters, heavy weapons etc to make them WYSIWYG.
