I'm painting my tau blood red. Right now my secondary colour is blazing orange but I want to change it because thats what i highlight the blood red with. What paints would be a good secondary colour to replace orange?

EDIT: Secondary colour for my crisis suits. (the armour panels)

EDIT: Out of the GW range of paints which tan/brown paint should i get to paint the joints of the crisis suits and the cloth on the firewarriors? (Please name specfically!)

Thanks.

Pictures of the type of the blood red on my models are in the gallery.

I assume it is the armour that is red? If so, I would say the clothes should be perhaps khemri brown or similar. Or a bit more ochre coloured. My two cents.

As orange and red are close together, either try sticking to the one side of the colour wheel keeping things evenly spaced, or (my personal preference) average the two colours out then use the colour furthest from that (should be a blue I believe).

That being said, my knowledge on colour theory is nothing more than a passable one, so someone else can probably give a better option.

I think that black looks good with red. Or gold.

Dark grey for the cloth. Give it either scorpion green or white Sept colours.

You need to go look at a color wheel. A general rule of thumb is that you do not want to put adjacent colors (Red is adjacent to Orange since you mix red and yellow to make it) on a model as a primary and secondary color scheme.

I think Light Browns and Tans look really sharp if they are well done with Red. Black always has a nice contract and blue is a cool color which provides a nice contrast against the red. Green works too, but is a little Christmasy

If you mean for the legs and such, silver and red look very good together.

Silver and Red would work if the cloth were red. I'd go for dark grey and red with yellow or white for the sept colour.

+1 white. White + Red look awesome together.

Or Vomit Brown, it's basically a peach color, but noticably different from Orange and Blood Red.

I think i may have misworded my question. I actually meant the secondary colour for the panels like how oshavah has grey on some parts of his armour. A lot of people say white and i know that looks good but im too lazy to paint white so i may just stick with orange alough i am looking for another colour for the joints on the suits/cloth on firewarriors.

I was definitely thinking of a tan/brown colour as most havr mentioned. Im not too fond of grey. What would be the best gw paint for the joints/cloth?

Right, I'd go for a brown for the cloth. Garveyard Earth or Scorched Brown perhaps. What about Bleached Bone for the parts of the armour, easier to paint than white, and will still look pretty good.

You got a few options to go here but as "Blood Red" is considered a bright-dark colour (as wierd as that sounds) you don't want to paint the undersuit a colour that overpower's or blends in to the red armour...

So I suggest any of the following:
1. Black undersuit with Shadow Grey drybrush, it's easy to paint, very difficult to make mistakes on and won't take focus away from the armour...
2. Scorched Brown with Bleached Bone highlights, a dark undersuit that still leaves the focus on the armour (For a lighter alternative try 50/50 Bleached bone and Scorched brown as the main colour)...

Also for the panel colour, Bleached Bone with 50/50 Bleached Bone and Skull White Highlights would work well with the Bright Red Armour...

Hope this helps...

I'd say that black and red are very cool together

Off-white, and a very light brown look nice with red armor.

I like the idea of the scorched brown undersuit. I'll give that a try although all my models already have a basecoat so i'll have to paint them the hardway.
