Wanted to bounce an idea off you guys regarding a speed Dark Elf list. Not nessesarily tournament standard, but fun and powerful.

The list has no way of denying steadfast and hardly any damage potential in combats past the first round. Combine these two and you know why these type of lists do not work in the current edition.

If you want the overall speed feel you can still adhere to it without maxing it out blindly.

I'd drop malekith first off for a dread lord on chariot and maybe a SS on Pegasus, if points allow. If you have to pick I would go with the sorc.

Next, get a BSB. Either put him on cold one or leave him on chariot, but be warned! On chariot will probably get him killed if you do not hide him extremely well. I would drop the other master, but keep the level 2 in for extra magic with the lvl 4.

For core I would say keep some dark riders! But I would probably go 2x5 for harrassment. They aren't that great, but a theme is a theme. Fill your core with any of the other choices to your preference.

In special I would keep 2 or 3 chariots (4 if you want to run them in pairs) but invest other points into cold one knights. With the BSB in the unit stupidity won't be an issue or even alone they'll be fine. Small units work for monster hunting, large units work great as death stars or just combat blocks.

Either way, you'll have issues tailoring your army this way, but have at it if you wish!

Hermit

As I see it, this list is unplayable. Get some harpies, and transform some of the dark riders in two units of 5 for harrasment. Get some shades and a train or two of CoK. Also drop malekith, as none of the DE special characters are worth their points, and invest the difference in more troops. Also, a hydra would be nice too

I applaud your courage in taking the weaker choices in the DE book en masse!

The only real change I would make (without rebuilding the list entirely) would be to make one of the Chariot Masters a BSB with the Standard of Slaugter on a Dark Steed instead. Then change the unit of 14 RXB Dark Riders to 20ish Shielded Dark Riders. Combine the two and you have a (marginal) ranked unit that can potentially deny steadfast at least some of the time.

Go for a Sorceress Lord (lvl 4) with the Pendent that hits your enemy back. Make sure you can get the spell that allows you to hit a horde unit and gain extra wounds. Run her (and a large unit of supporting troops - spearmen or whatever) straight up to the biggest and baddest enemy your enemy has. Cast the spell that will get her to double up her wounds. Challenge the big nasty in combat. You should be able to start saving the majority of those wounds and will be able to wreck face since there aren't too many things that have more than 6 attacks. The unit should finish off or provide enough combat res to kill the enemy or make him break and run away. Either way, its not something your enemy would expect. I've seen Bloodthirsters die from this little combo. Its really unexpected and entertaining.

Of course, that requires a total retooling of the entire list....

I don't know but all of the DE players here say, "Play Sneaky or Go Home!"

That depends on how badly you need to win, I suppose.

It looks to me like the OP has a 'for fun' list he want to try out. There are plenty of threads about how to make an 'optimized with all the tricks' list around here so I assume people generally know how to make one. Tweaking a themed list, on the other hand, can be tricky and is worthy of advising...
