Anyone have a store/location that will do a small scale set of custom transfers at a reasonable price? Looking at enough for ~6-8 rhino's with various scrollwork

Hell I would be willing to do it for you depending on what you want.

If you already have the graphics that you want, its really simple to do water transfers, if however you want custom symbols and the like, than that is a little more artistic.

Actually making the transfers themselves is the easier part.

Buy that, a can of clear spray varnish and just print them on a color printer.

Go to the local model train store. Testors sells a DIY transfer sheet kit thats pretty nifty. Don't fuss with "their" program or anything.
Use whatever graphic program you already have on the computer (cut-n-paste other pics onto a word doc works pretty good).
Set your printer for the transfer sheet (IIRC it's A4 which is an odd size). Print your images using the manual feed to ensure you print on the correct side.
Once printed let the transfer dry for a few minutes...DO NOT TOUCH THE FACE OF THE SHEET!!!
Once dry spray a lite coat of matte varnish over the transfer (this locks the color to the sheet).
Let dry for a few hours. Spray a lite second coat. Let dry ovenight.
The next day just cut out your transfer and apply as normal.

NOTE: These sheets come in 2 flavors; clear and white. The clear is good for lite colored models (Imperial fists) while the white is good for dark colored models (Salamanders). With the white sheet you have to either trim it real fine, paint the edges to match your model, or use a program like Paint to print an appropriate color border around the pic itself.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

PM me if you go with the Testors ones. They work well, but I've found that there are a few tricks and oversights in the instructions that make a huge difference.

The good news is with a little Microsol and practice they come out better then commercially produced decals in the end.

Question, do you need the decal spray to make the testors work or can you use microsol/set to make them stick? I ordered the paper but didnt get the spray and i have Microsol and Microset...

You need the spray. Or you can get the decal adhesive stuff from the Microset/Microsol company. Without the adhesive the ink will just melt off the paper.

The Spray and Micro-sol are two completely different things, and you need both of them for the decal to come out best. But you don't need Micro-set.

The Spray is actually a sealent used to seal the ink onto the decal paper itself. Without the spray when you put the decal into water the ink will just wash right off. Also there's a trick to spraying it on that's not well explained in the instructions.

Micro-sol is what softens the decal so that it adhears smoothly to the surface you stuck the decal onto. If you're applying the decal to a flat surface you might be able to survive without it. If you are allpying the decal to a curved surface (like shoulderpads) then the Micro-sol is essential.
