What do you think the chances are for the new Necron codex to be Tier 1 in the meta? Personally, I would love it if that was the case: I've wanted to do both Necrons and a real, competitive army for a little while now, and if I could get two birds with one stone, I'd be ecstatic. Rumor has it they'll be unveiled at Games Day UK, and if that's right, we'll all find out in 13 days.

Regardless of whether or not they actually are, legions of internet neckbeards will proclaim it is. I don't think we'll really know until a few months after release.

This is about that time where I wish I could just hibernate for 2 weeks, and wake up to a Necron-loving world. But sadly, real life has to exist, and I have to work.

More or less.

They definitely got changed around beyond recognition.

Repentia-rhinos culbe be a new sight on the battlefield though I'm getting conversion ideas, and i dont even play sisters any more.

As to Necrons- Ward is writing it, so the fluff will autosuck. The rules will likely be confusing, and loopholeable for any weapon not sepcifically listed in the rule.

All your favourite units will be retasked and/or nerfed to oblivion, to make room for new units that don't really fit the theme..

Basically same as all the other dexes he gets his thumbs in..

Could be worse though. With ward there is at least a chance for decent rules. Cruddace would just bend you over (ask the Nids how much fun that was...)

There is a quick and simple guide to whether or not the next codex will be... slightly better than the one previous at winning.

Q: Is the Codex you are holding any sort of Imperial Army?
If the answer is yes, then congratulations. You're on your way to slapping down everyone else who gets in your way of being the Ultimate 40k Master.

But wait! You almost forgot something! Is this codex surrounded by articles so boring and full of advertising tripe that it makes your head literally implode with rage? And is it only half a codex, meaning you'll have to buy yet another of these seemingly impossibly-filled waste bins of words?

Then your codex is suffering from Pumilioalbaitus - best take it out behind the shed, little Timmy, and put it out of it's misery.

2 weeks, because the latest rumors has it slated to be the big unveil at Games Day UK, which is in 2 weeks. Just like Dark Eldar were when they came out.

We cant get much worse than we are now (but that can of worms is for a diffrent post). Ward has me scared less but I guess I can live with sub par fluff (the old codex fluff is still valid right???? ) And as for being a top tier army? I've been playing crons since before the stealth reprint so yeah, I've waited long enough to be OP. I was hoping that my sisters would get beefed up in the new release (miserably they didn't even get a dex) so I took on the other side of the inquisition. Crons need to be up top for once in their entire 40k existance.

I think the whole notion of all of the Necron's waking up is pretty significant. It would indicate an absolutely ginormous paradigm shift in power in the galaxy. I mean, a once resting, undead civilization wakes up simultaneously... I can imagine half the worlds in the galaxy suddenly teaming with Necrons.

I'm guessing the Necron fluff is going to be the precursor to 6th edition, where the primary conflict in the galaxy is Imperium vs Necron, and I personally think that would make for some truly excellent fluff and story lines. The Necrons, taking back what was once theirs, and the Imperium slowly dieing, clinging to what they have claimed in the galaxy. I expect Necrons will be fully able to compete ferociously with any Space Marine chapter.

Would be interesting if all the Necrons woke up.

4th Edition focused around Chaos vs Imperium

5th: Nids versus everyone

6th: Necrons vs Imperium?

And People say the plot doesn't advance.

Anyways, I think the Necrons won't be overpowered. IMO, only the Space Wolves and Imperial Guard are really Overpowered right now. The Necrons will have a bunch of new toys and neckbeards will cry cheese, but people will find counters and they will settle into the same Tier as Grey Knights, Blood Angels, and Dark Eldar: great, but not game breaking.

Or they will become the New Tyranids: beaten with a Nerf Bat until tender.

They could be overpowered. They could be underpowered. They could be just right. They could shoot rainbows out of their asses. They could have Blood Angels as allies. They could have a jazzercise special rule.

There's not enough information to even speculate how powerful the codex will be.

Really? I thought 4th edition was their attempt to make too weak to be anything but a beginner's army. Though if Necrons are to be the big bad of the 6th edition, there'll have to be some focus on Chaos as well, considering the gods probably won't like and attempt to destroy their realm.

Arguing with some people is like playing chess with a pigeon. You can play the best chess in the world, but at the end of the day the pigeon will still knock all the pieces off the board and then gak all over it.

people will say they are OP, people always say a new army is OP when it first comes out because they dont know the rules. it will calm down after maby two to three months after the release.

My biggest hope for the Necron codex is a continuation of Matt Ward's epic team up.... Blood Angels and Necrons! Best buds forever!

Facepalm.

The fluff will be silly (but potentially unintentionally entertaining).

But given the Blood Angels and Grey KNight's success in tournaments lately... I would say Necrons will probably be one of the better armies out there.

I'm most looking forward to all the new models and transports etc, if the plastic reboot is anything like Dark Eldar's was, it'll be nice.

I think it's much to early to determine if Necrons will be overpowered or not. But, we can make some judgements based on recent codexes. There's 4 factors to look at:

1) They're a xenos army. Xenos armies have tended to be rather weak in 5th edition The strongest, Dark Eldar, are very good, but even they aren't exactly "overpowered".

2) It's written by Ward. His codexes (both in 40k and Fantasy) have tended to be rather overpowered.

3) They're a MEQ army. MEQ armies have all been top tier in 5th.

4) Necrons have traditionally lacked transports. 5th is all about transports, and the other army that lacks them (Nids) are pretty weak in 5th. If Necrons aren't given transports, they may be very weak still.

So, overall, I think Necrons could really go either way, and could do it to an extreme amount. We'll have to wait and see.

In Fantasy, yes. His Daemons book was overpowered in 7th, but I don't know if it still is in 8th. His other codices have been fine, they're just the most recent so people aren't 100% sure how to fight them yet. His Codex: Space Marines is solid. Blood Angels and Grey Knights are just Marines and still die like Marines.

This.

Also if the rumors are indeed true in a substantial way then we will likely see a pretty substantial shift in the way we see armies played.
