This...Necrons haven't had an update after their first dex ever.

Warhammer, one of a few games where Yahtzee is possible and not always a good thing

They might unveil images, but the rumor has been Necrons on or after Halloween. I haven't seen or heard otherwise.

I would like to be wrong on this, though. Necrons could use a good codex, new models, and soon.

I think the unveiling is scheduled for Games Day, but the release is somewhere around Halloween.

They do? I need to inform the BA player at my store of this. He has been giving his Blood Angels a 4+ to avoid death after I shoot them full of holes with my AP3 weapons!

OT: I think Necrons will be less powerful than Dark Eldar, so roughly a T2 army along with vanilla SM and Orks. Not great, but devastating in the right hands.

What AP3 weapons are you using that aren't strength 8? I can't think of many mainstay weapons off the top of my head that are AP3 without being strength 8 battlecannons or similar. Plasma, melta, lances, ordnance, power weapons, power fists, and so on are just as good at killing them as anybody else. Even so, a list with lots of Sanguinary Priests will positively bleed killpoints. A single wound Marine isn't hard to kill with enough firepower, even with FnP.

Off the top of my head:

Reaper Launcher
Tempest Launcher
Doom Sirens
Thousand Sons' Bolters
Hot-Shot Lasgun and Laspistol
Colossus Siege Mortar
Staff of Light
Frazzle
Kilkannon
Snazzgun (sometimes)
Flamestorm
Sternguard firing vengeance rounds
Ion Cannon
Rail Rifle

It's been 10 years + already.

They don't seem to have an objection to waiting on non SM releases.

The Nids would still like half their codex supported, also..

As long as Ward is writing the Crons will be fine. Expect a total overhaul of how they work though. As expected with whatever he has his hands on. Although, I doubt they will be OP it will be more likely for them to end up on top with SW, GK, IG, BA, DE. Everything will balance out in the end.

I cry fluffy tears everytime someone says, or types this comment. You cannot loot a lith, first of all, it has no crew and no pilots, second, they always phase out, third, how would you even drive it????

I foresee a maajor rewright in fluff. I don't know why everyone insists crons need to be a horde army..... There weren't that many of them to begin with. I also dislike the rumors i hear about the living metal and c'tan. I've heard the wods overthrow tossed around about the star gods and I wonder how mindless robots can overthrow their masters. It's like a tyranid hive fleet overthrowing the hive mind. It's impossiable. I tell you, I'd love to be the next GK, but lowing our armor save, making our WBB roll harder, and dropping our weapons and vehicles like a rock to lower our point cost is just not going to make it happen.

Problem with overhauling a xeno race like the necrons is that unlike a human-based codex where you just slap in a few new vehicles (generally the same old vehicles with new guns) and a new paint scheme, then add special characters to taste, there is a very real possibility that you'll change the feel of the army so much that it'll no longer be the same race, even if it still looks like them

Necrons, fo example, are currently impacable, resilient and terrifying, use teleportation to travel anywhere they want and their main emotion is hatred for all life. They are the puppets of capricious gods that lured them into their current condition.
their only vehicle is a flying bunker with a teleportation gate and is near indestructable.
This makes Necrons awesome.

To change any of this and still have them play as Necrons, rather than as a brand new shiny race of tinbots would take some very careful handling.

It's not so much a power thing, for me. I'm not fussed if they wind up not moving from the much acclaimed 'lemon' bottom rung codex slot they inhabit now. They DO have to still feel 'Necron' to me though, or they're getting put into stasis until they do another codex a dozen years hence that makes them feel right again.

I'm really hoping Ward does them justice. I'm optimistic about the new book. I just don't want a piledriver to the playstyle-nads the way the Nids book was.

As to Necrons- Ward is writing it, so the fluff will autosuck. The rules will likely be confusing, and loopholeable for any weapon not sepcifically listed in the rule.

All your favourite units will be retasked and/or nerfed to oblivion, to make room for new units that don't really fit the theme..

Basically same as all the other dexes he gets his thumbs in..

They would be either:

1- More overpowered then Grey Knights, Blood Angels and Space Wolves together.
2- So weak fluff that everyone will make a joke of them.

P.S. My personal opinion: No. 1 - because M.W. played with Necrons before he descoverd Ultramarines.

Ok, so he has no army loyalty

I've been with Necrons since they flew deckchairs and were built from more rivets per model than a deff dredd. I rsan them in Epic when they were built by chaos squats

I've played other armies as well, but i never did vow to be army monogamous

Shrug. That was then, this is now.

These days he as a Power Armour wedgie of epic proportions , so i doubt his old army that he dumnped means much to him

So from what I've been reading the general consensus is dark, grimdark with a chance of OP?

Chance of Overpowered: 25%. There will be some powerful units and come crappy ones, just like any codex. After the fanfare dies down, people will figure out a counter for the more powerful builds.

Chance of Grimdarkness: 100% They are undead robots ravaging humans and eldar alike in a war-torn future, after all.

Ward has me scared less but I guess I can live with sub par fluff (the old codex fluff is still valid right???? ) And as for being a top tier army? I've been playing crons since before the stealth reprint so yeah, I've waited long enough to be OP. I was hoping that my sisters would get beefed up in the new release (miserably they didn't even get a dex) so I took on the other side of the inquisition. Crons need to be up top for once in their entire 40k existance.

If you've been playing the tin cans for that long you've enjoyed the ridiculousness that was Necrons before 5th.

I'm inclined to go up to 75% myself, if only based on historical precedent; all prior rules for Necrons (in multiple systems, i.e. BFG) made them tougher then all extant opponents at the time. Not necessarily better, but in every case they had the hardest to kill units in the game.

Yakface's rumor section gives me hope for a superior army. The way I understand it, from rumors, Necrons will still be MEQ's, but with a 4+ instead of a 3+, and WBB will be a 5+ Feel No Pain at the end of the turn that cannot be ignored by any circumstance.

If they ended up on par with Blood Angels, IG, and so on it will be justice for how terrible 5th has been to them. Regardless, as long as it's stronger than the Sisters WD dex people will be crying that it's cheesy and overpowered for about three months until something else comes up.
