I've been toying with the idea of modeling on a "spell" effect onto my terminator librarian. Heres' a few pictures to give a basic idea of what i've been thinking.

What are your opinions guys?

Haha yeah this was only done with white-tac so it does look like a giant sperm. And i intend to paint it as if it was a power weapon, so like lightning. i'll post some more pictures when i've sculpted the green stuff.

Hmmm Maybe.. I could suggest if you sculpted the spell effect in clear perspex or resin then heated it to make it pliable to wrap around the hand? you will need to polish the heck out of it to make it clear again but it might work?

Good concept, try to slim it down so it does not look as much like he is throwing a sperm.

have you considered drilling into his hand and using paperclips in the drilled holes and making lightning? you can also use water effects and some wash if you are very patient but im sure there are others out there who can recommend a clear resin that can use the paperclips as a structure and do some cool effects.

The USS Orinoco was a Federation Danube-class runabout that was in service with Starfleet in the late 24th century, attached to Deep Space 9. It was outfitted with a sensor pod.

Ohhhh that does sound like a proper winning idea... you might have to paint the paperclips blue before applying the clear resin/or whatever clear effect your intending to use...

A piece of light gathering perspex rod wouldn't exactly break the bank and can be found online or in very good modelshops.

So i remodeled the sperm and made it smaller, but i really like the idea of him shooting lighting Palpatine style.

Remodeled:

So i've ordered a sheet of Acrylic plastic, so get ready for an update ASAP.

P.S Heres what he'll look like:

This could be pretty cool depending on how effectively you OSL it.

Seen as though im a beginning painter i'll do my best with OSL. Also what colour should the lightning be? I was thinking blue but as the armor is going to be blue I wanted to add something to contrast. Maybe yellow?

I think red or magenta - both of those colors, imo, are strongly associated with the warp.

Other then softening it in hot water, I don't really have any advice there. Are you looking to do some kind of translucent type thing? Clear resin might work well for that.

Place you piece of acrilic rod in the oven on a very low heat for about five minutes then remove and try to bend it. If it's not soft enough to do what you want replace it in the oven. if this continues turn the heat up incrementaly.

Warning if you leave it in the oven to long (two or three hours) the moisture/ solvents will evaporate and it will shrink. If the oven is too hot it will melt.

Im not going to make it translucent but i figured acrylic would be lighter and more solid than green stuff. Also cheers mullet_steve for the advice.

I think it might work much better as some sort of clear or coloured clear resin.

The reason i dont want to do it clear is because it might look too disjointed or fake. An example would be sticking sand to a base and not painting it.

When I first saw it, I immediately imagined you'd be painting it to have a lightning-like appearance, and I think that's what I'd go for. However, as an alternative suggestion you could paint it to look like flame, as it would then (to some extent at least) suit the description of the "Avenger" psychic power.

Driven away from WH40K by rules bloat and the expense of keeping up, now interested in smaller model count games and anything with nifty mechanics.
