I'm not seeing very many lists with him. Giving that he's a hero killer, wouldn't he be worth taking along with a unit of Ironguts?

Bragg the Gutsman
Ironguts x5 (FC, Dragonhide Banner, LoG)

The banner makes opponents strike last which gives the Ironguts plenty of opportunity to do some serious damage and Bragg the opportunity to HKB his opponent's champ/character.

Not really. Which is the answer to that question for 90% of the named characters out there.

He is for all intents and purposes, a Bruiser. A Bruiser that costs twice as much as a Bruiser and can't take any of the special abilities or armor or weapons a Bruiser can.

What he does have is HKB in challenges. Which makes it likely that anyone he challenges will refuse the challenge. Or if they're so powerful they accept, just smush him.

But really, it's +100 pts to potentially make people scared of challenges. So on one side, you got a Bragg army. On the other side, you got an army with 2 Bruisers. I'd be more scared of the 2 Bruisers. It's a fairly overpriced ability unless you're going to be challenging lots of Monstrous Infantry or Daemon Lords. I mean it'd be funny to go chasing a 600pt Bloodthirster around the map, but that's not going to happen often. If he just had pure HKB...well, it'd be too powerful. But challenge only means you can't just walk up to a Dragon and gut it.

But he makes a cool model for a GW Bruiser or Tyrant or such.

Yeah, he's just too expensive for what amounts to a rather gimped bruiser with an ability that won't even come into play often.

Even if he made it so his challenge can't be refused, he'd be significantly better.

That's too bad. Nice looking model. I guess I can always use it as a generic Maneater or something.

He is horrible. No protection for a bruiser that can HKB in challanges only.

The problem is anything he is fighting will not allow him his pathetic 6+ armor, and anything that does isn't anything that a cheaper bruiser couldn't smush.

If he had HKB all the time he would be worth considering, but I still probably wouldn't take him.

he does make a kick- BSB or Slaughtermaster.

From what I hear his model makes a great BSB.

The main reason you'd take Bragg is because you needed a special character better than Golgfag! .. At least he's only 2x the cost of a bruiser instead of 2.5x..oh but his special ability lets you on average take 70 pts of magic items! I wonder what the other 85 in his cost is for?

Perhaps the ability to allow one unit of maneaters to take abilities they can already take? Amazing

Obviously for that one game you roll for his items and then he drops down the Pit of Shades turn 1.

Hate to derail the post, but are the special rules Golgfag bestows onto that unit of maneaters in ADDITION to the two they choose, or are they forced into choosing those two in particular?

They're forced to use those special abilities.

But nothing forces you to upgrade to Golfag's Maneaters. You can take Golfag and a unit of MEs that isn't Golfags. I really see no point in taking his Maneaters.

I thought about this a few nights ago. Most lists are built ahead of time, such as heroes and equipment. Like all the lists printed on these forums. Golgfag can't, because he has to roll before each battle to see how many points he is allocated. Which means you are choosing new sets of magic items per battle. Which means you can tailor your items to each race you're fighting. It's like having to roll off spells before each fight, except you get to choose them.
